Consider the events in NO and what would have went down if good people didn't have guns.

Consider the riots of the 60s, the LA riots, Miami, etc, etc. Now consider those cities where the riots were not kept in their own economically and demographically challenged area. The cities would have ALL burned to the ground by now. Something to think about.

There was a time, not all that long ago in the grand scheme of things, when rulers and noblemen could ride into your village, take your wife, your kids, your property and do so with impunity. How were you to ever lash out or protect yourself and your family. The posession of firearms changed all of that forever and allowed for personal liberty and took control from the hands of gov't to give it to the People. A rather antiquated concept for DU Troll types.

You do not sound like someone who understands the depravity that humans have inflicted on one another over the centuries.

I agree with your sentiment - we should ALL be very involved in protecting our Rights and Freedoms, but Washington works via Lobbyists. That's a reality.

Consider those places now in the context of the riots of the 60's. The violence, burning, destruction remained confined to their own neighborhoods. WHY?
Because the people outside of those possessed the means and the will to defend themselves. Now, what if?
What if those people in surrounding neighborhoods and the surrounding metro areas were without that means?

LA, 1993: Mob violence, looting, burning, turned back by some with guns.
Now, remove the private possession of firearms and what happens?

there is still crime here and in the countries where there are no guns.
i love my guns, but please, if you can only defend your family with guns, you might wanna move to a nicer hood. people defended themselves the same before the invention of guns the same as they do after they were invented. the world will not come to an end if guns are taken away in certain areas. i think it is wise to remove them in areas where civilians cannot obey the rules of having them eg..most of the bigger cities in the world. blah blah blah....the sky is falling......

It takes some degree of skill and training to use a sword, and even then it was illegal for many commoners to own weapons.
And even if your example was factual, ok then.
The people used swords - but that was the peak of weapons technology.
If you want to use a sword in the age of the gun, by all means go ahead.
Make sure to give us a range report.
