Are you happy?

Do you know why, or why not?

... yes, almost chronically

... but I sometimes classify it in the same category as those clinically depressed. At times, I wonder why I'm as happy as I am - I think it stems from gratefulness

Hell, yeah!
I have a fulfilling job that pays me well.
I have a boyfriend that is so perfect for me it is scary.
I have a home that I just bought last month.
And I have a loving, supportive family.

I'm in one of those rare moments in life when everything is going fabulously, all at the same time.

Just waiting for the ball to drop.

I sure was happy after eating at your house last night!

Seriously, I am very happy.  Great job now, finally moved back to Florida after an 8 year sentence in TN, have almost all the gun-related toys I want (if the pesky ATF would get off their asses and get my paperwork approved I'd be in heaven) and my wife joins me after 8 weeks away from me in October.

Life is good.

Normally?  Happy....right now?  Not so much.  Just got a call from the wife that the dishwasher is spewing water onto the kitchen floor!!!

Now, I bet the water will go right thru to the basement where I just finished the drop ceiling and drip water on my new handmade oak bar....this isn't what I had in mind when I built my wet bar!!!!!

I heard a couple of psychological researchers on NPR's Science Friday talking about happiness. I've heard similar comments before. Although money causes many people stress, an increase in income apparently does not change many people's "level of happiness." They said that if people are worriers, they tend to stay that way, and supplant worrying over income with some other worry.

I didn't hear the whole thing, but there is a certain level of median income I think you need to in order to not be stressed out.

I've heard that discussion with WWII era Germans.  Their concensus is once you have reasonaly stable source of food, shelter and clothing; money starts having dimishing returns.

Despite having been thrown to the curb by the love of my life a few months ago I am very happy.

Why?

I have a life.  I have a burgeoning academic and professional career.  I have wonderful friends and family that I spend time with.  I have a brand new Springfield National Match M1A and 1000 rounds of Argentine surplus.  I have a busty mistress.  I live in a beautiful place.  And even when I am grading a bunch of freshman calc exams (like right now - 100% failure rate so far) I still remember to enjoy myself.

In a word, no.

Why? I have spent so much of my life seeing to other peoples needs, I sort of left mine behind.

Funny thing, I recently got a new position where I work, as a supervisor, and now I spend my day doing pretty much what I want, and not busting my ass chasing all the loose ends and putting out fires for the coworkers. I seem to enjoy working more than weekends.

Maybe this will rub off into a better private life.. fullclip

Edit to add, It's like I forgot how to have fun, if that makes any sense.... fullclip

shit that will allow you to keep your mind off your

No I'm not happy.  I'm pretty frustrated with school dragging on, stupid roommate, family problems, mom keeps telling me about problems with my step-father and how she's tired of it, and I see the toll it's taking on my younger siblings.  Not to mention trying be motivating for them so they don't end up losers.

Did I mention school is taking forever?  There is nothing here for me anymore and I'm seriously thinking about just gettign my AS and finishing my BS when I get to TX because I'm so tired of all this crap

Not fully but life is pretty good right now. I guess I would say I am happier than I have ever been in my life and if I were happy all the time I would have never accomplished shit.
