Its been twenty years since I had a drink (of alcholol).   11 Sept 85

See I had a little drinking problem and I decided I would quit cold turkey.  For 3 weeks I did not miss it at all then for about a month I REALLY wanted a drink real bad.  But I stuck it out and now I dont miss it at all.  My wife still drinks and it doen't bother me.

I started drinking when I was 14 years old.  All thru my teenage years I drank all the time.  At 16 I could buy on my own ( the age then was 18).

When I quit I just decided that I was in control of my life and did not like the idea that I drank every day.

I never tried to tell others not to drink.  That is a decision they have to make on their own.  I just point out that if I could quit any one could.

Bravo.
I come from a family of alcoholics so I really try to watch my drinking.

Good for you dude, congrats, I'd buy you a beer, but given the circumstances, let's keep it at milk.

Meh.  The implication that alcohol in and of itself is somehow evil is beyond me.  Overindulgence of ANYTHING, even water, can be bad for you.  To each his own.  I can't imagine life without at least one or two drinks a day.  YMMV.

Congrats, it's been 14 years for my wife with alcohol and 12 years for cigarettes. It's tough but worth it.

Awesome !!!

I have great admiration for that.

It must have been tempting to have a drink 4 years ago.

Great Job!

If I quit drinking I could probably lose those pesky additional 50 pounds.

I respect those with willpower.

Congratulations,

it has only been about 2.5 years for me, I had quit for periods prior to that but could never make it stick for more than 8-9 months....

Best choice I ever made, sure it is the same for you
