A buddy and myself just recently finished playing with two 308 bolt setup we built a while back but hardy ever shoot.  Took 10 box of 168 Federal Gold and wasted it down-range over the course of  a full day.  If you never shot precision bolt-action rifles before... I recommend you go and try it out.  Bborrow a friend's rig if you must hing

I was using a custom Windchester 70 short-action in 308 (1:12 Kreiger bull, piller-bedding in a composite kevla stock, and running a super lite 1.25lbs pull) nicknamed 'Big Bertha'.  My buddy was using a standard Remington 700 PSS package... he nicknamed her 'The Bitch' after his ex..  We were both running 16x Mark4.

You were hitting .308 cases at 300 yards with a 16 power scope?

Regularly?

Im guessing 100 even then thats pretty impressive
I can just make out bullet holes with my MK4 16x at 300m so I guess you could see the case
If it was at 300 did it take all 10 boxes to get that case?

If you reload you can cut the cost down to less than 40 cents per round if you already have the brass.

I have seen golf balls hit at 300 about 50% of the time.  I can't do it but I have seen it.

Hell no... not regularly, I wish.  Why do you think we wasted 200 rounds of Federal match.   h
But...  I have personally seen USMC scout sniper shoot a 8inch block all over the place at 500m regularly with nothing but a 10x Unertl.  With enough practice, anything is possible.

The farthest Ive went was 800yds and it was a damn BLAST! Kept 3moa out that far with Aussie ball ammo.

Distance shooting is FUN.

Two questions :

1. Why is the hole oval and smaller then the 30 cal neck
that held the same size bullet  ?

2. Why is it that the brass is blown from the inside out on both sides ?

Are you seriously asking these questions?  I’m sorry, but hard targets react rather differently than soft targets.  Ok… I’ll entertain it just to share with everyone that don’t shoot long distance or at harder-then-paper targets.

1) Bullet don’t make nice round holes when hitting hard targets (ie, not paper) like Hollywood would want you to believe.

2) Against hard targets, material doesn’t just push rearward but expand out from impact zone due to the kinetic energy of the initial impact.

3) Bad angle on photo, the hole is actually smaller than neck sizing due to bullet elongations that happens due to the round being fired down a barrel... but we are taking centimeter. difference

Over 300 meters? Damn....I cain't even see that fer anymore! Nice shooting.

I shot a 2.5 inch group at 300 meters with my AR and Wolf 63 JHP a couple of weeks ago. I WAS feeling purty 'deadeye' till I find out guys are shootin brass at +300 meters. Damn!

I wouldn't have asked if I wasn't serious , but thanks for entertaining me

Really .....  223 sure makes pretty holes through .308 cases @ 100 yds  ?

It was just a simple question , but now I actually have a reason
to go to the range again tomorrow and try .308 vs .308 for myself .

Thanks
