This ammo would be for SHTF situations and would be used in a Bushmaster M4gery and Arsenal AK .223...

Please give me some opinions...

Go with EXTREME SHOK ammo for shtf.

Later this year they are going to introduce the " Air Looter" round.

It disables the looter but keeps the Heineken in tact.

I just keep stockpiles of LC XM193 for SHTF.

I am adding some other rounds, most noticably BH 75 and 77 grain, for a couple of rifles that prefer the heavier rounds.

I use Hornady 75 gr. TAP Urban (Red Box)

#1 It's very accurate at 25 yards. Colt M4 carbine.

#2 I practiced firing 100 rounds at life size maniquins in room to room self-defense situations.
(a very pricey day)

#3 I feel very confident in the round in a self-defense confrontation.

I'm seriously thinking of the 62gr SS109 Green Tip ammo.

It has a heavier slug that might be useful in the shorter AK and short AR right?

Plus, it's cheaper.

Biggest baddest and heaviest bullet I can get. Heck, if 77grainers were an option I would pick those.

Why should I choose 55gr Full Metal Jacket over 62gr SS109 Green Tip Full Metal Jacket?

The conventional wisdom (at least on the ammo forum) is that the 55 grain round more reliably fragments, and that the 62 grain round does not have any benefit whatsoever except at several hundred yards out.

55 gr for ~200 yds. or less.

We're talking SHTF here...why would you want to use FMJ ammo? I want the nastiest, biggest hole making bullet I can find. In .223, that's got to be some sort of hunting/varmint round like the Blitz King or the Nosler Ballistic Tips.

anything i can get in bulk, if its a true SHTF type of day your going to need ammo and lots of it. buying hornady V-max ballistic tip is nice but i cant seem to find it in a 1000K pack for cheap.

I love my AR, if it is what I have available at the time then I'd choose the 55grn Ballistic tip over the other choices. you give up the penetration of the FMj and SS109 in exchange for far better terminal performance on "soft material incursion".

I've read that the newest Evans / Marshall report gives the 40 grn HP rnd near 100% one-shot torso stops. I still like the ballistic tip stuff for window glass and minor barrier penetration while still giving decent terminal performance.

If however, I am able to complete my next project before "chaos reigns" so to speak then I will use an FN/FAL with good .308 fodder. If SHTF is the case then I will not care about the backstop so much.

I know it's significantly heavier but, it's definitely a terd anchor.

Milsurp for SHTF. Gets you a primer seal and if you buy in bulk, already sealed into battle packs and ammo cans.

For SHTF, shoot whatever fires accurately in your weapon. If you think it's important beyond this.....you've never faced SHTF.

Ammunition reliability and firearm reliability are primary....the grains of the bullet are incidental.

By SHTF, I assume you are talking about a rather large stockpile and not just a few hundred rounds. For that purpose I would seek mil-spec M193. It combines the best lethality and affordability better than anything else out there.
