Why is there so much emphasis on damage cost assessments put out in the news.

Can anyone here even comprehend what a billion dollars is or what it is capable of in terms of buying power?

$1billion would buy about 1,000,000 ARs. Or about 8,000 transferrable M16s at current prices. You could also purchase 10 million rounds of Wolf .223 ammo.
