city....42 mpg
highway.....50 mpg Bought a Honda Civic Hybrid in February '03. Got over 37,000 miles on it. Right now I am LOVING it !!! Any other Hybrid owners out there? Anyone doing better in non-hybrids? Lablover |

With my Roadstar I get...
~45 mpg city ~50 mpg highway ...and I get to ride a motorcycle to work! |
I dont have one but wondered a few things.
How is maintenance on them? Arent the brakes aprt of the charging system? Can you do a regular brake job? Do you need new batteries? if so how much? and how often? Just wondering, they seem to be pretty darn expensive from the get go and wondered if they cost a lot to maintain. I would like better milage for sure but the added cost of the vehicle keeps me from doing it. |
I got y'all beat!
I get 13 MPG with my Wrangler.....! ...oh wait..higher's better! HH |
My battery is garuanteed though Toyota for 10 years, part of the warranty package. I do not know about the brakes, not a mechanical person myself. I will say that my Prius is the absolute best car I have ever owned, of any kind. First toyota though, so maybe that has something to do with it |

my 1988 f-150 with a KLN air filter, high-performance spark plugs, new distributer, and just ran fuel injection cleaner through it, gets an impressive 13mpg.
BTW, i hate little inbred cars. they keep getting stuck in my air-shocks. |

48 Highway
44 city. 2k VW Jetta TDI. Plus, fuel is only $2.59 a gallon! |
He probably drives a Volkswagen Sport 1.4 TDi PD 75PS -- a LUPO, which gets 78.5MPG durring "extra urban" driving. God bless google |

Say what? we are still over $3.00 a gallon here in AZ! |
I hear the new Pharisee is going to get even better mileage than the Prius.
$2.97 here in eastern oregon. glad I own a hybrid. |

55 MPG combined(mostly highway) @ 75 MPH in my '01 Jetta TDI. Cha-Ching!

The battery and charging system has an 8 year warranty so I have no experience with that cost yet. No new brakes either yet. It actually charges when you brake and when you gear down. (I have a 5-speed manual T) It does take a "special" oil. Change at the dealership is $36. Personally I think they are F'ing me on that. When I bought in '03 the cost was $1,500 more than a regular civic. There was a one time $2000 tax deduction which resulted in about $350 of reduced tax. When gas was $1.50/gallon (back when I bought it) I was saving $40 / month in gas cost over the minivan I was driving. At $3.00/gallon my savings is probably $70/month or so. I am guessing I have made up the difference. The KEY is I am using 1/2 the gas I used to. Imagine if everyone had one (1) hybrid in the family. Less gas used, more gas available, lower cost. Our other car is a Honda Odyssey (16 mpg around town and 26 mpg highway). A bit of a dog around town, but it is a vehicle we need since we have two teens, a 90 lb dog, and 2 cats. Hope I answered the question. |

They don't sell the Lupo in the US. A Honda Insight, perhaps? |

28 - 30 city Scion Xb. |

47 Combined. 98 TDI Jetta. $17201 cash in '98. Over 100000 miles.
3/4 ton 4x4 Suburban....16 MPG. And a Warn winch bumper that flicks hybrids out of my way.
I've heard that hybrid drivers are pretty much guarenteed free oral pleasuring at any highway rest stop in the blue states.
Just thought I'd mention that, should it have any influence on your decision to purchase one or not. |
The difference in mileage between the average hybrid and my F150 is not enough to motivate me to give up the comfort and versatility of a 4X4 pick up. Make me a hybrid 4X4 1/2 ton pick up that has at least 250 horse power and gets at least 70 mpg hwy and costs less than $32,000.00 and I'll buy it. The trouble is, as we get better mileage and start using less gasoline the price will continue to rise because the share holders expect high profits. When they don't get high profits, they will get out of the oil business leaving fewer companies to supply our needs, lowering the available supply. Low supply, high demand, high prices. You can't win.

[foil_beanie] Senators Hutchison and Coryn are in the President's pocket. We get cheaper fuel...but Senator McCain is a boil on the butt of the President so you get gouged [/foil_beanie] You are still paying for that pipeline break in fuel prices. IIRC, there aren't to many refineries west of the Continental Divide. |

A diesel Jetta gets about 50MPG, and as an added bonus you wouldn't look like a pussy. |
I had an insight for a year. Kinda wishin I had it now, but I live too close to work for it to stretch it's legs. I averaged about 55mpg, but once got 72mpg on a trip from Austin to FW and back.

Thx |

Boar,
Pretty much all the hybrids nowadays use conventional brakes. The regeneration goes through the drivetrain, so yeah, you can do brake jobs on 'em. The good thing is, most of them regenerate at varying degrees from when you are just coasting, to light pressure on the brake pedal. It does contribute noticeable drag, so you're actually using less friction from the brakes to stop the car. Brake pads should last a bit longer than standard vehicles. |
With my 70 440 Charger I get 4mpg City, 3mpg Highway. (At least it has a 28 gallon tank.)
My Honda Civic is still just a 4 banger. NO on the acceleration. Won't be winning any drag races, but once up to speed it cruises very nicely. |
42-45 mpg with my '01 Kawi ZRX1200. The bad news is it drops to 35 mph when twist the fun handle really hard.
.....and I can't stop twisting the fun handle really hard. |
A very simple 16mpg in my truck
Lifted, 4.2 v6, 10psi of turbocharged boost. 350rwhp. I can live with that. |
I dont drive on the hgihway too much, but I get about 25-27 mpg out in the country driving about 55 mph. 95 sonoma, 5 spd
Got a 95 chevy S-10 4 cyl, 5 speed, with 109,557 miles on it. It's got rust here and there. It still gets 35 MPG on the highway. I can tow my 2000lb. boat or load it down with firewood. I feel quite comfortable parking it at the gunshow or going to the range. and the best part is IT"S PAID FOR!
WTF good is a hybrid gonna do you when you are under some soccer moms suburban? I want the law of superrior mass on my side. I'm suprised at the number of people that whore out their safety to save a couple bucks a week. |
2000 Jetta TDI. 77,000 miles. Diesel in Tampa is 2.69/gal. Gasbuddy
K&N filter, a few tweaks and the right tires: 45 in town 61 highway And faster than your hybrid. NYAH! |
Got almost 20 mpg when I went to TN 2 weeks ago in my F-150 with the 5.4 L traveling an average of 80 mph. Probably wouldve gotten more if I had kept it under 70 but I like to get there as soon as possible. I think that those that are getting 50 ish with their hybrids are cool. They use less gas therfore theres more for me so THANKS.
Hybrid owners...got a question.
Do you use your air conditioning compressor 100% of the time? When I drove a first generation Prius I left the AC on all the time and the gasoling engine ran all the time. With the AC off the gas engine shut down at stop lights. I'm wondering what effect that use, here near the Sun, has on milage. Thanks in advance. |
4.9
0-60 in my 2000 Trans am. As far as gas mileage: 27 highway 19 city. |
I can get around 33+ on the highway in my 350Z in 6th gear. I usually do highway driving so this is fine for me. I would not be suprised if in a year or two cars will have a 7th gear or 5 or 6th is just enough to go 65 with hardly any passing power.
I really like the option to have a near gas sipper or a muscle car all in one |
I get 65 MPG in my Jeep Grand Cherokee..........of course after 18 miles I have to get out and push it the last 47 miles.......
TDI, 50 mpg and it does 140! 47mpg doing 90-120 across southwest.
