Any high quality dog food will do. Just find the one your dog likes and use that one. Or you go on the internet and ask people you don't know for advice.

Science Diet and Iams is all I feed to my dog. They have pretty strict quality control unlike some cheaper supermarket brands

My four mutts eat a homemade blend of Science Diet and Pedigree. Sams has the 52 lb bag of Pedigree for about $15 and Petsmart has the 40 lbs of Science diet for about $30. For a puppy, I'd use the puppy flavors.
The dogs each get one can of canned food a week and anything else they can scarf or beg during the week. |

Walmart has a brand. I can't think of the name. It may be "Premium", but I am not sure. Anyways, it's cheap and pretty good stuff.

I would recommend you buy at least a
premium brand; Science Diet, Nutro, Eukanuba, etc. They are available at the vets and good pet stores. You can't go wrong with any of them. Recently, I switched to Solid Gold. The type I'm buying has bison as the main ingredient. It is a "super"premium brand. Check it out on the net. My two labs each lived to be fourteen. I lost my Australian shepherd this summer at age seventeen. The key is; feed them quality dog food. Don't feed them table scraps. Make sure they get plenty of exercise. Give them your heart. They will thrive.

I've fed my Black Lab from when she was weaned with Pro Plan....best damn food for a dog, IMO.
She comes from a Champion bloodline on both sides, and she's an incredible dog. HH |

My daughter the Vet says, "Pick one that specifically states that it offers FULL nutrition".
Also, feed puppies more often, and she says, "It's better to feed an adult dog twice a day". "Feed the same amount you normally would, only split it into two feedings". 24 hours is a LONG time to go between meals. |

These days it is not a matter of what the food is lacking....that is controlled and foods sold and package meet the minimum requirements.
Today the problem is excess of nutrients or minerals that are harmful in the long run. For example Sodium. If a body rcvs too much of a certain substance it has to use its system to eliminate those items. That can cause long term problems with kidneys, heart, etc. Iams and Science Diet are very well respected in the veterinary community. Ask one. |
