My Tactical Tailor MAV with X-Harness is pretty spiffy. I use Blackhawk S.T.R.I.K.E. M4 mag pouches with it.

I've got an Eagle Tactical Vest.  It works great.

Personally, I own the Blackhawk STRIKE Recon chest harness

It's modular and pretty inexpensive compared to the HSLD custom gear out there.  You can always find something better and it usually costs more...

EPOCH

don't forget to look at Tactical Tailor also...

ETA:  IBSTMBMTGIV

in before someone tells me Blackhawk makes their gear in Vietnam...

I've found the specter gear thigh mag pouch to be nice.

What's the best?

The gear built by Roger Skic at Custom Tactical Creations.

What's the best commercially-available bang for your buck?

The gear built by Gene at High Speed Gear, Inc..

There are really alot of choices. You have to decide what you want to use it for. Are you going to really USE it to the point wear and tear is an issue. Is it for just in case and stays in the closet alot? Will you buy it then get to fat for it and have to sell it?  Some of this stuff can be expensive for the good stuff. But worth it if you need the quality.  Blackhawk is good enough for most. Just a thought.

Alessi leather 223 mag pouch on an Alessi belt. Throw one or two on. Throw some more in pockets if you need.
