Wow, that's shocking, I'm impressed.
Bet our prices don't go down though. |
+1 that's only a few million barrels, won't even dent our consumption costs. |
1/2 a billion frickkin dollars and some of you are sorta iffy about it? Would you rather have sand for sandbags? I personally say THANK YOU Kuwait, and Citizen's for your help and thoughtfullness. I guess you all remembered 1991 and we appreciate it. And it will help stabilize prices in the long run. |
^^ This is the LARGEST donation by ANY country. Considering the size of Kuwait, this is enormous. |
Yes, gratitude. Not a normal for a (non-western) nation..........
You hit the nail on the head. Kuwait is a good ally to have. |
This may sound strange but I was thinking maybe we as US citizens should write letters to the embassys of the countrys that are donating items and thank them for there support.
Of course there going to give us money to fix our stuff cause they know its like watering there money tree for them.
I would venture to guess that Kuwait's donation will dwarf the combined contributions of the rest of the world's nations. |
You have to remember that Kuwait also allows us to stage military activity out the country and all US ground forces going into Iraq stop there for their last lock on prior to going in to Iraq. Most Kuwaitis still remember 90-91 and are grateful.
That donation from Kuwait means a lot, as a Muslim country this move is not going to make them popular with their fellow Muslim countries.
It's great. Really.
But I doubt WE will see any lowering of gas prices at the pumps because of it. If the oil companies never dropped the price a penny, what could we do but try to drive less and get more fuel-efficient cars? Nothing else, unless you want to talk about violence. We're so hosed by big oil. With friends like the oil companies, you don't NEED any enemies. CJ |
I'm not belittling their generousity; I was just stating that in the big scheme of things, it's a drop in the bucket for us (don't know what it is for Kuwait). |
It's a half-billion dollars in lost revenue. |
I think it's a great gesture by Kuwait. We helped them out in a MAJOR way not too long ago.
+1 I am surprised by the gesture. This speaks well for Kuwait. |
That's awesome........thanks Kuwait...... |
That is over 7 million barrels of oil, nothing to laugh at. Translating it losely to 153 million gallons of gas. |
I searched around and by far this is the largest donation from a single country. Makes me feel good that a country actually appreciates what we did for them and now they're helping us in our time of need. Too bad all countries can't work together. |

Iran is sending aid also ..... I'm not so sure we should view this as a way to determine who our friends are. |
Actually... even Iran has offered to help. www.ar15.com/forums/topic.html?b=1&f=5&t=386463 |

Fuck their citizens... they are only giving because we have their back like fucking Kojack. C'mon. |
I might violate COC but you are acting like a little ass, nothing more. I'd donate shit to someone who was as ungrateful as you. [well, maybe one turd] |
You are an ungrateful piece of shit you know that. Friends help each other.... that is why they are helping. We help them... they help us. That's usually how it works. |
IIRC they also donated one billion dollars after huricane Andrew.
They do indeed remember what we did for them 14 years ago. I just hope they never forget as so many other countries have. |
The list of donor is interesting because of not who donated but because of who did not.
I understand they are pledging 500 million in oil, not cash.
Ummm, 500 million in oil at thier cost of $4 per barrel will "Cost" them 125million barrels of oil. 500 million in oil at the price they are now getting of about $70, will only "Cost" them 7.15 million barrels. I highly doubt they will value the oil at their cost. Point is, the 500 million sounds good, but really will amount to a little over 7 million. |
its a nice gesture thats for dam sure.
but i bet we turn around and sell it to some country instead of actualy using it |
Let's just nationalize them. |
+1. I am impressed with Kuwait's donation. What goes around comes around. |
This ammount of oil will cover the fuel used by all of the rescue vehicles for evacuation and transportation of supplies.
I am always the outsider.
I dont think those in New Orleans should expect anyone to do anything for them. Neighbors and family, yes, others, no. I think expectations of I think we should tell them we really appreciate their help, and are grateful, but no thanks. We will handle our problems, they should handle theirs. Anything else is indeed watering the money tree. And anyone who doesnt at least offer, should be cut off for good. |
I disagree CavVet. We should take their donation, and thank them.
However, I also agree that we should make a list. |
...the point is...they could have sold the oil and made 1/2 billion dollars. Soooo, by giving it to us, that would be 1/2 billion dollars in our coffers. Good Lord people, I'd sure hate to be the one reponsible for buying your Christmas presents. Ungrateful sots. |
Ditto. And to the naysayers who want direct relief, this will offset the SPR draw. |
Half a billion bucks!
Damn! Not bad! We gave them to them anyway..... |
Actually... you are completely wrong. To get their cost... you would have to account for the revenue they are losing... not how much oil costs to them. |
+1 besides, a 1/2 bil of oil will at least quadruple in our economy by the time it makes it to the pump. Besides, when and where do we get off questioning the generosity of another? They give, we accept and appreciate it. End of story. Patty |
