I have heard the John Wayne song you are talking about, this one is of the same mold but it is different.  I downloaded it off of iTunes and really like it.

I couldn't remeber the last stanza about the Eiffel Tower, Taj Mahal, etc., in John Waynes rendition, but the rest sure sounded like his. But it's been a while since I've heard it too.

Charlie Daniels has always been one of my favorite performers. Solid American, he is.
