That really pisses me off, griping about 'Cold Army Food'. Sounds like MREs to me.

Don't like 'em? Don't eat 'em!

I'm beginning to think that poverty is more an attitude than a lack of money. An attitude that everything should be free.

I see people working their asses off for little or nothing and they probably WOULD be better off(financially) on welfare, but even so, they seem to have a much better lifestyle.
They might not have a big house, but they know that paint is cheap. So is soap and water.

Picture someone like Donald Trump or someone with a little class, Hell, even Bruce Willis, being rescued and handed an MRE. They'd GRATEFULLY eat it and STFU.

Yeah, maybe there would be some comment like "It isn't the Ritz, but I'm damned glad to get it" or something along these lines.  They'd at least publicly express Basic Fucking Gratitude.

In the Army, I'd eat Cs things for weeks at a time without a complaint, and the guys overseas are probably eating them for months on end.

It's New Orleans.  Even the poor people are used to eating good.  Seen some of those mommas?

I agree, I make around 30k annual, most of it eaten up by FICA, SocSec, Medical, Deferred Comp (retirement), etc. I probably have about a $900 paycheck every two weeks for a family of 4, one of my kids is autistic. I have normal people problems with a few twists.

But, they are MY problems, MY debt, MY bills, NOT yours or anybody elses. I have the responsibility to pay them back. I could declare bankruptcy but, that's irresponsible.

I could apply for all kinds of shit. Free lunches at school, etc. That however, takes away funds that could go to someone who really needs it.

Them, I see things like what's giong on in NO and I'm reminded at the damage that has been done by the social welfare system and the entitlement mentality pervasive today.

This is not a black thing, it's a socialist thing. F&^*^Kn AS&^*&HLS.

ETA: The comment about the food being good there is an understatement. Gosh I miss cajun food but, geez whiny bastards.

You know, some people just aren't happy unless you really kiss their ass.

I bet, considering the volume of MREs we have gone through in the past 10 years, this was one of them "new-fangled" self-heating MREs too!

Crazy woman couldn't read well enough to follow the damn instructions.

I swear I'd lose my stripes.

She'd complain and I'd hand her the first scrap of paper I could find and tell her it was a gift certificate to Fat-Assed Charlie's Soul Country Kitchen and to go there.

CNN would film that at 11, America would laugh like hell  and by midnight I'd be a private.

Sometimes I think that if I went back into Military service I'd have to have Velcro on my sleeves.

The new MRE's are light years ahead of the shit made in the 80's and early 90's.   Too bad the bitch couldn't have had a nice COLD escalloped pototoes and ham or corned beef hash.

Don't get me started on the heated T-Rations, .

I never ate cold MRE entrees.  A canteen cup full of water, wired to the top of the muffler on a 5 or 10 k gas generator set heats the entree in about 10 minutes.  Or you shove it in the exhaust stack of a deuce an a half or five ton and wait 5 minutes before gunning the engine to expel the package.  Or use the canteen cup method to make a frech cup of instant coffee and crumble the dried pork patty inot the coffee along with the packet of dried ketchup.  Let the coffee to absorb, spread over the crackers.  Damn fine eating.

The old ham, even cold, rocks.  But fry it in the messkit pan and it is oh so good with the pineapple pack.

I would always clean out my MRE, even trading the gum and matches for the fudge covered brownie, the fruit cake or the orange cake.  All good stuff.

Like I posted in another thread she probably couldn't read the instructions because they were printed upside down.

Good thing she wasn't in Korea in the winter and had to eat C- rations because they didn't have heaters.

Beef stew was really good when it was –5 degrees out and it was frozen.
Our Commo PC had to run almost continuously to keep the batteries charged, so sometimes if we were near we would pierce the top of the C-ration can with a P-38 and set the can on a stone in front of the exhaust to heat it. The exhaust was on top of the PC and curved to the rear about 3 or 4 inches from the deck near the right front.

I was on radio watch one day and it was so cold that my fingers were numb even with my gloves and liners on, I had to look at my hand to see if I was holding the pencil.
The PC didn’t have heat and the hatch on top was open for light. We had been taking turns heating our C-rations on the exhaust when this new 2nd Lt. saw what we were doing and placed his on the rock. About 15 - 20 min. later there was this loud explosion and beans and franks went everywhere including on me. We found the can and it was bulged on the bottom with the top blown open, he didn’t know that you were supposed to puncture the can first.

edited because I can't spel.

+1  Just add water to the heat pack (the water she was complaining about receiving amply) and instant HOT meal.

Not quite instant. She would have waited a whole 2 - 3 minutes to get it good and warm,
