How much ammo for the Garands did our boys carry with them?

Always been wondering this... it's a pretty heavy round, but then again, combat back then was slower and you didn't shoot as much, since most people only had bolt actions and 8 round clips (garand).

looking at pictures, I figure they carried anywhere from 150 to 200 rounds.

I think I read an interview... a soldier who landed at Normandy said he was carrying 8 in the rifle, the cartridge belt (10x8 round clips) and I think three bandoleers (6x8 round clips = 48 rounds each)

which would come out to 232 rounds
