That is sad BUT if anyone ever rescued a dog over a child or a person it would be far far worse.  I love each of my dogs to pieces but human life is far more valuable.

I haven't decided what I would do in a similar situation. It's a tough choice between killing them outright, or turning them out to fend for themselves.
