I am floored by this, obviously a great american (no matter where you are politically) has been lost.  But the political implicationsare HUGE (and not good for us, I think.)

The timing on this is terrible.  The liberals will hold Bush's nominee hostage in exchange for concessions and admissions of incompetence related to Katrina disaster response.  It's gonna get really, really ugly.  Bush's leadership, meaning how strong he can stand against the liberals, will be tested in this battle like no other in his Presidency.

yup, I hope to G-d bush holds strong and send two of a kind in.  But politically that's probably gonna take a 'nuclear' congressional move.

Chief Justice Rehnquist Dies at Home
Sep 03 11:11 PM US/Eastern

WASHINGTON

Chief Justice William H. Rehnquist died Saturday evening at his home in suburban Virginia, said Supreme Court spokeswoman Kathy Arberg.

A statement from the spokeswoman said he was surrounded by his three children when he died in Arlington.

"The Chief Justice battled thyroid cancer since being diagnosed last October and continued to perform his dues on the court until a precipitous decline in his health the last couple of days," she said.

Rehnquist was appointed to the Supreme Court as an associate justice in 1971 by President Nixon and took his seat on Jan. 7, 1982. He was elevated to chief justice by President Reagan in 1986.

Hopefully someone that RESPECTS the law and doesnt try to rewrite it or find it's "intentions" If we had another Scalia I wouldnt lose sleep.

Hey Fox... were you REALLY asking or just being a prick?

If you were really asking, dude, you need to go and brush up on your history... turn off the computer and read a book.

He was lucky. His cancer killed him pretty quickly, and he was able to do what he loved right up to the end.

I wonder who Bush will nominate to be Chief Justice. Hopefully Scalia, or maybe Thomas. That'd be a legacy maker: Appointing the first black Chief Justice to the SCOTUS.

Oh, that would just kick so much ass.  The first black chief justice.............and the most conservative.
That would be an interesting counterpoint to all this "Bush hates blacks" bullshit from the left after NO.

And I cant believe you guys think this is bad for us. As a country, yes. As for the right wing, we are fine. We have Congress and the Oval office.
