People in NO in their swimming pool in their backyard. While a couple blocks away they had to drop MREs & water to some folks. The swimming ppl were waving at the helicopters and having a good ole time.
it's 95+ degrees with no power and riots all over the city
what would you suggest they be doing? |
[sarcasm]So? During a time of crisis dont you want to kick back and take a break from it all for an hour or two?[/sarcasm]
That should be a Corona commercial. "Change your water depth... er, latitude!" |
i dont suggest they do anything, I jus thought it be odd. Ya hear about all the horrors in the city but you have a family that has managed to deal with it. |
They were doing exactly what I'd be doing, except I'd have some guns in hand to ward off looters.
If someone could find pictures/a movie of that... that would be grand.
They might have been some of the smart ones who have a generator, fuel, supplies and are just waiting it out.
On the other hand they might have broken into a house and ransacked the place and were just kicking back until it's time for them to continue their wilding ways.... |
Looked to me like a family that is prepared to deal with it! By the looks of it they are getting by just fine! Would you rather have them squatting in filth at the SD or convention center?? I wouldnt! At least some people prepared to take care of their own! Edit to add.....one of the best sights I have seen out of there yet! I laughed my ass off watching them!
Have you seen a man eat his own head??? |
+1 Looked like the (above ground) pool was treated, rather clean water, but it looked like it was surrounded by about 2 feet of nasty flood water. The family had built a bridge from their back porch to the pool. Looked like they were having a blast. |
This also looked like one of the more well kept and developed neighborhoods I've seen in NO and not the ghetto. That might explain the more relaxed and under control appearance.
I'd also be willing to bet these people had some supplies on hand and were better prepared than 95% of the city. |
Yes, I think it was one of those Hannibal movies. |

Firearm tip o' the day: Gun for swimming in pool, Ar-15 = no* , Glock = yes.
*see 'aquabump' thread. |
My thread had the pool in the subject...yours was just a teaser thread... |
HK underwater pistol...yes plus |
Supplies are the key...I don't live in a flood area, and I can honestly say I could hold out at least 2 weeks in a situation like that. To the pool ppl...they are just having a good time and enjoying an unexpected vacation. Good for them! |
There will always be patches of calm in a sea of chaos no matter how incongruous it may be.
didnt look like there was much of a house around that pool.
Water did not look clean, maybe not contaminated |
One thing I know for sure, if a disaster hit. The majority of the members of this site would have been ready or had already bugged out. If the poorer of us would have hoofed it out.
The poorer of us would be able to go to other people for help... Us as a community, must stick together. I wonder if AFRCOM's PC server can run while in transit? |
lol...i actually thought that too. |

Ya know.. one year I went tubing down the Salt River on Independence Day weekend. There was a group of guys setup on a bank with a ramp and a few banks. They had a hand-painted sign that said, "If you want to see some flips, show us your tits!" Dutifully, the nubile young ladies floating down that section of river stripped their tops off and jiggled their bewbies. Sure enough, these guys start hitting that ramp and doing all sorts of crazy backflips into the water. I was thinking we could get something like that setup there. "If you want to see a CH-47 in a nosedive, show us your tits!" I dunno.. just a thought. |
Now thats funny! |
Why would they want to swim in sewer water?
Can you say cholera? |
Helping those in need. |
Don't have CNN/TV here at work. Anyone have video screenshots?
I would have the BBQ fired up, and the generator would be powering the Margarita machine while watching DIRECTV. |
Yeah, just like the fishermen who brought there boats in to rescue ppl. and got shot at... |
I've been saying it since I first found ARFCOM:
I'm saving up for a nuclear missile silo. When SHTF/TEOTWAWKI occurs, you guys will be running around scrambling for a safe place and I'll be sitting in the jacuzzi watching Red Dawn. |
HELL YEAH. |
No, it was an above ground swimming pool. The water looked fine, but real cloudy. I'm thinking they used it to clean up with soap, thus clouded it white. The funny part were the smiles and waves. They were having as much fun as possible, and even using a net to get leaves out! LOL |

... Oh man, that brings back memories. We used dive and do backflip off those very cliffs all day long, every Sunday in the summer on the Salt River - right next to Blue Point bridge ... Every Sunday, from 1974 to about 1980 - seen more live bewbies in those years than I ever saw images on the Internet every since! |
I was waiting for that too!! Ican't help but wonder what's going to happen when the warm beer and rancid balogna is gone what they're going to do then, since they can't just jog on over to the corner Quicky-Mart for a Slurppy and Corndog. Pretty soon they will realize that they too should have left when they had the chance... |

After Hurricane Betsy with no power or water, my neighbors used our pond for the bathtub on a regular basis.
We had a water well, and my father took the electric motor off and used an old lawnmower with a horizontal engine on it to power the well; had the whole community coming over for water after several days as their stored water started running out. |
And those who are prepared shall survive and inherit whatever is left. |

You can start shopping here: www.missilebases.com/ |

Good for them. In fact fucking cool. I am a proud prepared American. 1 month food, a well, bottled water, water filters a generator with lots of stabil gas and weapons. Again, good for them. The welfare state and the socialist (see Democrat in the dictionary) mind set has fucked America.
We are different. We will help ourself, not depend on the gov. Bob |
We need to all get ARFCOM flags so that we can identify each other at the next SHTF event.
Ahem. I'm the one who introduced that link to the survival forum and GD. My referencing a jacuzzi wasn't just coindicental; one of those silos has been renovated as a luxury home and includes a jacuzzi. |

LOL! I'm sorry, I didn't have your posting resume in front of me at the time! How about a private island? Vladi Private Islands |
