Blacktop isnt black on that photo, its grey.
All the black is water.  Check out the marina in the upper left, looks like some of the boats might have survived. Kharn |

i think a lot of us are having the same knee-jerk reaction. just remember 80% of the pop left without destroying their neighborhoods and nola is 70% black so most of the folks who left were black. on top of that, you have another 15,000(?) in the superdome who haven't looted anything, then on top of that there are thousands of old and sick folks who couldn't evac. it's just a small percentage of blacks who are making everyone else look like animalistic, amoral scum...course, ain't that the way it always is in the best of times?

Now all they have to do is replace all the wooden structures, dig the mud out of the sewers, buried electrical cables, and communications lines, replace the ground floor of every building, pump out all the basements, fix hundreds of broken pipes, test all the lines and electrical fixtures, fix the levees, mark evacuation routes, pre-position supplies for future emergencies, hire a new police force, fire department and civil service, buildup high ground for future evacuation points, find new residents (dumb ones), shoot it out with all the gangs, solve hundreds of murders....
