Oops!  Not gonna happen in places like NO, etc.

Wonder what certain people will do when they realize Uncle Sugar isn't giving them their duly earned Welfare Check.

Welfare is Direct Deposit, but thanks for the fear-mongering anyway.

They have their own debit cards for welfare accounts here in Florida. We looked into one time when we were lowly E-3's and thought about trying to get foodstamps

Well, seeing as how I've never been on Welfare, I didn't realize it was Direct Deposit.  But a LOT of these people don't have checking or savings accounts and get an actual check that they cash.

As for the fear-mongering comment - WTF?

PS - I fucking hate welfare.

And what bank will they go to ??
They looted them and destroyed the ATMs all over the city.
And where would they spend it ??
They looted all the stores.

I wonder if they'll get a nice big check in a few months for all the months they didn't get "Their" money?

Actually it goes on a card, just like your american express  Its called ebt.  On the first it is just "there" and then you can head off to wal mart buy yourself a pack of gum and then take out $300.00 to buy alcohol, drugs, hit the casino, buy yourself a playstation so on and so forth.

Well during the "civil unrest" following the Rodney King verdict, they stopped rioting looting  protesting long enough to line up for their checks....

What exactly would someone do with currency in NO at the moment?
Go out for a nice dinner?
Catch a movie?
Go shopping at the mall?

There isnt a single place to spend a dime....money is useless.
I am guessing most people would pay $100 for a clean bottle of potable water.

Anyone getting bent over missing a welfare check, while they are wading through rivers of raw sewage and rotting corpses really ought to take a look around them and STFU.

But it's THEIR money!

Seriously, mark my words, there will be people pissed off about not getting "their" money.

Welfare is the shit, isn't it?

Now is the perfect time for these welfare recipients who've suffered through Katrina, to relocate with government assistance and go out and find jobs in areas not affected by the storm.

We could use Katrina to begin a nationwide movement to end people's dependancy on welfare.
Force these lazy bloodsuckers to get a job and support themselves instead of relying on Uncle Sugar.

I can dream can't I?

One of the reasons I hate the welfare nanny state is because I was raised by a mother only who was lazy as hell and we were on welfare for a long time.  She was never raised to take responsibility, since that was what men were for.  Except hers (my father) bailed early.

When Welfare to Work started, that's when my mother went "crazy".  ETA:  The state paid for her to become certified as a counselor, and she worked in AODA for a couple years before you took the big slide.  20 years later, after bilking the system for years as a "paranoid schizophrenic", suddenly the county doc has figured out she isn't actually mentally ill.  So then she had lupus.  But that didn't pan out so now she has "chronic fatigue syndrome".  Doh!

That said, the first of the month was always a big day when I was a kid.  And even though she didn't blow the money on crack and beer like the homiez, we still ate PBJ on stale bread and hot dogs for the last week of the month, just like clockwork.

So from that perspective, I pose this question: who will feed and take care of the children?  Don't say "foster care" or any of that bullshit.  BTDT, and even though it was only marginally better, being with mom WAS better.

If it weren't for welfare, I would have been living out of a dumpster.

I work for SSA. It's going to be a bad week. SSI goes out tomarrow and Social security ck's go out on Friday. Unless we get a memo tomarrow, we have to wait 3 mail days before we can input a Non-recept and send another  check. If they have direct deposite and can get to a ATM or bank they should be ok, if they get it by mail..

I have no problem with anyone receiving welfare for a limited time. One year tops.

For whatever reason. Got fired, got hurt, going back to school, etc.

Generations of the same family living together in the same house who are dependant on welfare is disgusting. Welfare should include a one year coverage plan where people are forced to educate themselves in a specific field or receive technical training which results in gainful employment.

365 days. No job, no money. If you can't find a job in one year, you deserve to be ex-patriated.

I heard Nicaragua is nice this time of year.

Edited for content..

I once was hurt outside of work and had to get section 8 (welfare) to pay the rent, while I healed.
I was given $456 a month to pay rent on my apartment, less then half of what it cost for me to live for a month. Was not given any other benifit (no food stamps, no EBT cash). So I had to sell most of my possessions to eat/pay bills, for the 9 weeks I was on section 8. I immediately went out to get a new job as soon as I healed up. Due to the strange welfare regulations I was put on a "work stoppage" or some B.S., meaning I was not legaly employable by anyone.
So I had to get an off the books job, washing dishes. Previously I made a decent wage, had a car and had a real job.

SSI/Welfare sucks, but for some it is the only option. (see TheKill's post above.)

For me It was my only means of survival during the toughest period of my life.

Generalizing that everone on SSI/Welfare is only doing it for a free ride is B.S. .

And not for nothing, I had to PAY BACK a portion of the money NYS gave me, which wasnt enough to survive on anyway.

I'm not trying to flame anyone. All I'm saying is generalizing is a poor way to form an opinion.
