...on selling it off, and getting something more gas efficent?
I'm not selling, but I now plan to keep my 89 Bimmer that is getting about 34 on the highway.
I lost my Chevy Blazer last year and drive a Honda Accord now...
I'll never complain about the lack of power again... I'm sailing high at 26 MPG - BG |
My 99 Suburban is gonna be put up for sale. I am thinking of getting a nice motorcycle and a cheap car with a good a heater.
No way am I selling my 05 dodge ram with a hemi.........I knew what i was getting into when I bought it....if it gets bad enough I'll drive the tractor or 4wheeler to work
I've been looking for an F-250, and the prices are looking better all the time.
I have a 96 S-10 that gets about 16mpg in the city. I normally shift at 2700rpm, but now I'm going to knock that down to 1400 unless I'm on a hill. I can pull 22mpg if I drive very moderately in the city.
If I drove a truck or SUV and lived in a flood plain or hurricaine zone I would be looking at a lift kit and a snorkle kit, not a smaller car.
I moved in March, a big part of the reason so I could cut down on travel time and costs. Instead of driving many hours a week I have only spent 15 minutes in my car since March. Walk everywhere now. This obviously isn't an option for many people but I'm happy with the decision I've made. Also getting healthier and fitter from the exercise.
The excess cash will go into paying off the principle on my home loan faster. |
Not selling my toys...But am thinking seriously about buying either a compact car(50mph) or motorcycle to drive to and from work. Of course if I decide on getting a ricer I will most certanly tint the windows Can't be caught in one
Good luck selling big trucks and SUVs...people are getting raped tryin to trade 'em in right now.
I'm not (planning) on selling the Ford Explorer just yet. I like the option of 4wD too much (emergencies)However I DO believe I WILL be looking into a motorcycle, I rode 1 for 5 years went to the store, etc... on it and to work, even in the winter, that's why God made snowsuits! Yeah, sometimes I HAD to drive just 45MPH so I didn't get too cold, but it's really not that bad. And Ohio has pretty sucky winters. |
My wife just bought a Nissan Sentra ( Tuna Can ) So I'm going to drive her Chevy Prism that get about 2x the milege my truck gets.
ETA: We bought the car because she has been wanting a more reliable ( read:newer )car. Not because of the gas prices. I only drive 4 miles to work and could walk or bicycle if need be |
Yeah, it is not very hard to find a good price on a 4x4 and it is getting better all the time.
Not me. 6 person family here. My Town and Country is a requirement. My Pathfinder is worth the milage as well. I can drive over medians wheneer I want, park in places a car cant, and I cant take it down the back road to my house without worring about it bottoming out. I never made it a point to make wasteful trips anyway. ETA both vehicles are paid off and I own them so $400-600 a month of car payments is not worth it. Heck its still cheaper to drive these even if they only got 10mpg vs 2 car payments @ +$300 each a month+gas. |
I'm not.
Selling my paid for 1989 Jeep Grand Wagoneer that gets 10mpg and uses a full tank of gas per week at a now cost of $60 to buy a brand new Toyota that gets 30mpg and would use about $20 a week but would cost me $350-400 a month doesn't even make economic sense. |
I have a 3/4 ton 4x4 Suburban, and wouldn't part with it if gas was $5 a gallon. I love my tank.
After seeing what happened in N.O. ???
The SuperJeep is staying put! |
Only way I will be getting rid of my truck is for a nice new one
I knew it wouldnt be cheap to feed when I bought it.....I didnt expect this, but I made my bed, I have no problem lying in it. |
It took me forever to find a nice used 3/4 ton 4x4 chevy for pulling/hauling. I need it so it's not going anywhere. However, it'll sit until I need it. I drive a company truck for work so that's not an issue.
My wife's truck is a '03 Blazer that gets 20 mpg. I almost wish we had her old junk '93 Beretta back so we could enjoy THAT gas mileage again. We're going to stick with what we have for now. What it would cost to trade to a vehicle with better mileage could buy a lot of gas. |
Nope not selling my Dodge, but I will be starting to make Bio-deisel!!!! Very sooooon!
Travis |
People that have plenty of money do noy care about gas milage.
I'll keep my 6 cyl. Grand Cherokee, after driving on I-285 in Atlanta for years and seeing what remained of small cars in accidents, no thanks. Great gas milage but no protection.
Never.... All my vehicles/4wheeler trucks are running on homebrew Biodiesel except my Murcie but I only drive the car on a very very good day, once or twice a month on limited runs around the city. |
Any of you with eyes bigger than wallets that own a 2004-2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited and don't want it, let me know :)
I'm actually thinking about buying TWO slightly used gas guzzlers at a hell of a discount.
Then, I may get a motorcycle to drive while gas prices are high. I figure if I use the bike enough, and drive the new V8's half the time during all of this, I will still come out pretty good. A better plan than getting raped on selling something with a V8, and getting raped on buying a tiny car witha puny engine that everyone wants at the moment. |
Get the 04, Jeep fucked up the 05's with stupid IFS. I know I know...it's for the children...of soccer moms. |
My truck is a mini truck, so it already gets pretty good mileage. The only thing it needs is another paint job (this would be the 4th).
I dont have plenty of money, but I dont have car payment either. |
Back in May, we needed a replacement for our Jeep. Bought a frickin' Prius. 40-50MPG and it's the run-around vehicle. Hell, it's become the MAIN vehicle. I only use the Suburban when I need the space. But we're keepin' it.

BIG +1 |

If I knew I could get rid of it now, I probably would sell it. I'm almost to the point of being willing to take a loss on it as well. I owe somewhere around 10 on it.
I want another 4 cylinder Toyota pickup. |
People who have to drive in the snow belt need to get to work...sometimes before the plows come out. Not all of us have plenty of money, but a VW Golf wont go through 15" of new snow. |
1000 Miles a month, at 15mpg (or so in the truckie) @ $3 a gallon equals about $200 a month in petrol.
1000 miles a month at 25 mpg (in something else smaller) @ $3 a gallon = $120 a month or so in petrol. Truck is paid for, is reliable, and is comfortable. It suits my needs and I cannot see getting a new car for $80 bucks a month in savings. If it were 5 years ago, I would be thinking differently as $80 a month back then would have been a significant portion of my income then. If we get to the point where fuel is $5 a gallon, I will consider getting a runaround car for local commutes and grocery getting etc. |
My 4x4 90 Blazer (full size) w/ 350ci sits in the driveway all week long. Luckily I drive a company truck and the Blazer is for weekends and towing duty. I filled the company truck today and the pump shut off at $75.00 and I only had 3/4 of a tank.....
Not selling but the wife has parked her Trailblazer and is now driving my Camaro.
I'm keeping mine. I hate cars and couldn't get by without at least one truck. I don't drive that far to work anyway, so I could drive a tank and it wouldn't kill me. As for paying for the other longer trips, I guess I'll cut back spending other non essentials to cover it. I guess one less box of cigars a month should just about cover it. |
Thats what we have. And the Expedition sits most of the time too. Still take it out to blow the cobwebs out of the exhaust though. |
I'm not going to tade in my CR-V (23mpg) for something better, but once it finally is time to put it out to pasture, I'll definitely be getting something in the 35+mpg range.
The only thing I do now thats different is I drive at 75mph instead of 95mph on the hwy.

I don't have plenty of money for gas but if anyone wants to sell me their 2002 to 2005 Tahoe I might be interested. I know this doesn't make sense but I'll buy your Tahoe.
