Drastic price increases in gas and jet fuel will certainly have a negative effect on the economy for the foreseeable future. I have a bunch of stock options at work that I'm thinking about dumping. Thoughts?

my opinion, yes, because when energy costs start hitting the bottom line, they gonna go down.

It's High-Tech. We're doing well and our stock has had a good run. I could cash-out now with a nice chunk of cash. However, more is always better.

I had planned to wait a few months and I felt it would be up another 20%, but now with this disaster, I think the market will be depressed.

probably the time to invest in Gulf Coast property.  Should be worth 10-100x ROI in a couple years.  Not like no one else will be reinvesting in it.

Only thing worse than asking for dating advice on arfcom is asking for financial advice, IMO.

I'm short for the next couple of weeks and then buy on the "dump slump."

But hey... I've just got maybe 5k in and it's not my ass if things eat it.

You have a couple options.  So to speak.  If you want to sell, sell away.  If you think the company's going to be OK in a year or two look into buying puts against your current position.  Long term put options are called LEAPs.  Any major wirehouse can hook you up with that.

Another possibility is to sell some of the options and purchase puts against the remaining ones.

Beats me. Just about every stock I owned closed up today and I'm pretty well diversified.

I'd keep a close eye on it, if you're staying in one sector.
