"There two man apploaches to study of Chi-na compalative powotics:

One-Historica-institutiona

Two-Mnationa chuss."

"What's the second one?"

"Mnlationa chuss! Mnantiona chass!"

"National choice?"

"NO! Mnationa choice!"

"Rational choice???"

"Yes yes! Lationa choice, lationa choice, that what I say."

I had the same bullshit with some statistics profs in grad school.

Ask a question and you get the "smile and nod".

I took a poli-sci class at Ok-State.
American Govt. 1613 or somethin' like that.
The prof. was chinese and had only been in the states 10 years.

When I took undergrad statistics, we had a Korean professor who was completely unintelligeble. Worst thing was, he'd be offended and get furious if people didn't understand him.

What a complete asshole.

It took me most of the semester before I realized that the "Sea Squirrels" he was talking about were in fact standardized "Z Scores"

I've observed the same thing. They get pissed off when you can't understand them, as though its your fault.

You'd think someone hard working enough to secure a tenured professor job at a big university would have enough pride in or care for her teaching work to spend a little time studying english grammar and pronunciation. Do these people publish papers in english language journals? If so they must have grad students write the text for them. I think all public schools should make passing a tough english speaking and pronunciation test a requirement for these clowns to get hired.
