Ok, I imagine people will be bitching about price gouging soon.

What other than who is willing to pay the most, is a better method for deciding who needs scarce resources most?

The real Question: Should looting be allowed on businesses that are price gouging?

I tend to agree......I don't understand how price gouging could be proven.

It is a free market where no one is forced to buy anything ever.

I realize I will be in the minority......but I have felt this since the first time I ever heard the term.
Which was over 30 years ago.

I will deliver a Honda 6000 watt generator to the nearest passable road for a modest $4999.99

Wait a minute I am under an inland tropical storm warning here. Better keep the genny for a while longer.

Just after 9-11 all the gas stations went up in price around here.  Long lines, high prices, etc.

One gas station that got in some deep shit around here had gas over $5/gal while the most of the stations had gas prices ranging from $1.70-$2.50/gal.
$5/gal is plain ignorant.

You may feel different if someone had ever tryed to charge you 10 bucks for a 12 pack of Lemonaide after a hurricaine. I asked them "hey that price is wrong isn't it?" The thing is, they looked at me like I was an asshole to throw the fucking thing behind their counter when they told me what it was going to cost me. They would have been lucky to get 50 cents for it after it hit the ground. Scumbags. Fuck 'em all.

Been watching some live video feed on Channel 2 from WBRZ in Baton Rouge. Helicopter flyover of certain areas of New Orleans and surrounding areas. Major flooding. Southern Yacht Club is on fire. Several house fires ongoing and fire dept. has no water pressure to combat the fires. Showed some video of some people looting during the middle of the storm. It will take days if not a week or two to dewater certain areas. May even have to repair a couple of levees first. Power will probably be out for several weeks.
People will be bitching about the federal and state government not providing enough relief or not providing it fast enough. Alot of areas of New Orleans are very economically depressed already. Many people did not leave for the storm because they didn't have a way out of town.

No. I'd either look for an alternative or I'd
ask myself why I was stuck with nothing
asking for a 12 pack of lemonade because
of a hurricane that I had 4 fucking days to
prepare for.

A station around here did the same thing, they got in deep shit.   They said anyone who bought gas would get thier money back,  with or without  a receipt.   Needless to say they lost thier ass that week.

Would you like a slurpy with that?

I wasn't stuck with nothing. I had supplies, I wanted a damn lemonaide But i wasn't going to pay 10 bucks for it, and when i got done with their expensive fucking lemonaide, no one else was going to pay 10 dollars for it either. I just excersized my right not to buy anything there. And broke something. Maybe it was my shock of holding such expensive lemonaide that caused me to drop it so forcefully behind their counter, who knows

For certain staples one needs to live, I can understand, for the rest, tough toodles. Want lemonaid instead of water? stock up on sugar and lemons. Or country time flavored.

I'll see all you shit talkers during the next biblical food shortage.

You should have been saving your grain for a rainy day.

Free enterprise huh.
...and when they catch you stealing food to keep your children from starving to death, I'll say they should hold you down on the hot pavement to subdue you.

A thief is a theif

I think some of you put on a BS macho image. When the shit hits your fan, then we'll see how you really feel.

Lets see,  $.83 each for lemonade.
How is that price gouging?

I bet they are over a dollar each here in Texas right now.

See what I mean.....how do you prove it.
All they have to do is say that is how much they are in the cooler as singles.

When the price above them says 3.29 a 12 pack, I'd say that's price gouging. If it happened again today, they'd get the same reply. I'd throw the shit in their face, along with the rest of the merchandise i was going to buy and go to the next store.

ETA: In retrospect, My reply MAY be a little different, Perhaps I'd throw the thing at the liquor shelf behind the counter and  potentially break 200 bucks or so worth of liquor bottle. Of course at the price they were charging, It'd be worth more like 800 bucks.

Price gouging is a $6 beer (may be more than that now) at a Braves game. I don't see any DA jumping on that. I took the $3 Coke.

Florida takes price gouging pretty seriously. ya get caught doin it , your up the creek without a paddle.

I don't understand why the state government in Florida is so gung-ho about making sure that supplies are discouraged from being shipped into the state.  I remember before Andrew a local company that I did some contract work for was going to take two truck loads of generators down to Miami.  Of course after hearing that they would be arrested for selling them for a premium (because of the extra cost and risk of getting them there), the generators stayed in town.  Why would Florida try so hard to make it not profitable to get supplies to the area?  It looks like they would appreciate the high prices to encourage businesses to supply all they could to the area.  Instead the state government screws both businesses and the people by making sure it is not profitable to get supplies into the area quickly.  Would you rather have the choice to buy a generator at 3x the cost or have the government dictate to you that you can't buy a generator at any cost?z

I went to six flags shortly after 9/11 like Bush told me to.a

They won't let you bring ANYTHING to eat inside the park.
So, I go to get a bite to eat. As I'm eating my $10.95 plus tax burger of meat cheese and pickles. I notice a big american flag.

RIGHT OVER THE DAMN CASH REGISTER that said "God bless America"

I still kick myself in the ass for not saying/doing something about that.

Please draw me a comparison to your local theme park or sporting event and a week without power because of a natural disaster. I suppose the big difference is I didn't pay admission for the hurricaine, right?

The problem with the whole lemonade argument is the fact that people aren't dependant on lemonade like they are on gasoline.  I don't need lemonade to get to work.  I DO need gas to get to work.  And that is why the gas companies own us.
