My neighbor is stumped. Can't find the glove box either.  Told him the hive would have his answer in 5 minutes, maybe less!

He doesn't have the keyless entry device?

Are you talking emergency type open the trunk?  If so maybe you can pull the backseat rest.

He had the key-less remote in his hand.  I even pushed the silver trunk button with the stupid thing running. Over engineered German POS!

On my Towncar you pushed the last number of the sequence twice to open the doors.  Maybe something like that will work?

The 745i is a POS. Way too many gadgets in there.  There is over 57 separate electric motors in the cabin alone.

Try the key.  If that doesnt work the center counsel should have a button.  You might have to go into the electronic screen to do it.

ETA:  the trunk fuse is known to blow in these and thats why the key fob is not working.  Pull the trunk fuse and reset it.

Should have bought a Mercedes . I agree, too many computers on board, I don't even like fuel injection.

Tell him to open up the center console compartment and there is a two position swith for valet mode of the trunk.  The interior electronic and and remote trunk sitch on the key will be inop if the valet switch is set to "lock".

The center console is more compicated than Viagra.  I pushed every button on the remote at least 5 times.  He's got to get that body out before the owner returns!!

How about that glove box?  Anybody got a clue where they hid that thing?

The trunk open button is on the dash.

The master key remote actually has a mechanical portion that pops out when you push on the small button.  you can always use that in the mechical lock cylinder under the realease handle on the trunk too.

How close are you to the car?  I have to be literally standing on top of my car for the buttons to work.

Glove box button is a large button about 1" x 3" on the passenger side of the dash.  Push it straight in.  Maybe this person shouldnt be driving their car :).

That's what I thought too.

He pushed the trunk open button left of the steering wheel.  Didn't work.  Must be a fuse.  He's a high end car broker.  Knows the value and how to sell them.  Little else.  I'm gonna pull up a lawn chair, get a couple of beers and watch him try to find the fuse box.

I might suggest a plasma cutter..

ETA: Tannerite would also be effective.

Even if a fuse was blown (lots of other componets wouldn't work either), you can always open the trunk with the mechanical portion of the remote key.  Pretty simple.

I didn't see a key-like thingy on the key or a hole for it in the trunk.  Looks like it's been a real bad day for my neighbor.  So I'll wait until tomorrow to tell him he doesn't have french benefits either.  Poor bastid.

I think this is a case of operator error! It's actually not that complicated.  When you press the small, round, raised button on the key remote it releases a mechanical key insert.  Insert key into lock near lift handle on trunk lid(near the license plate lights).  Not sure how to explain it any clearer than that.

Most manufacturers have a quick release inside the lid.  Is there a way through the rear seat into the trunk area?  If so, I'll bet there's a release in there that is plainly visible.

Dudes if we had french benefits, it better be wrapped in a french maids outfit.  The flip side is you would have to surrender all the time.

Update:  The car is still just sitting where it was.  He has pulled up a lawn chair and is staring at it intently.  The car ain't impressed.  This may interfere with his golf and his wife and I's sexual interlude later on.  Maybe I should tell him about the dead battery in the remote possibility.  Where's that BOTD thread???

That will do it.  It will lock you out of all the compartments and only allow you to start the ignition. Damn krauts!

The button by the key ring side of his key (not by the actual metal laser cut side) will open the trunk with the doors locked.  They changed it in 2003 so that you need to hold it down for several seconds to release the trunk.

If the doors are unlocked, there is a manual release under the rear decklid.  Its covered with a rubber like membrane, but centered under that lip is a button to release the trunk.

Dealer should have went over this and other things that aren't quite operator friendly.

It took me 20 minutes one night to figure out why my turn signals were on constant after I turned the car off and locked the doors.  Its automatic if you leave the turnsignal to the left or right so you can have glowing warning lights on narrow streets.  Won't drain your bateery for days.

There's many more.  Tell him to read the manual, I mean manualS .

Many European countries require that by law. Usually you can leave either the left or right light on depending on which side of the street you're parked on.

I have also had to show several people how to shut-off their rear fog lights that they didn't know they had.
