Microsoft's popular Halo Xbox game is going from the TV screen to the big screen, after two studios agreed to produce a film featuring the game's cyborg hero Master Chief. The film is slated to appear in the summer of 2007. Halo is the latest computer game, or game character, to be picked up by Hollywood, following Final Fantasy, Resident Evil and Laura Croft. Microsoft has apparently been shopping the idea around Hollywood for a Halo movie for some time now, having gone as far as to develop its own draft script. The draft, an attempt by Microsoft to retain control over the Halo franchise and no doubt develop all those juicy game-related tie in's in the inevitable Halo 3, was written by Alex Garland who penned The Beach and 28 Days Later. Universal Pictures and Twentieth Century Fox are reported to have agreed to pay Microsoft $5m plus a percentage of ticket sales capped at 10 per cent of the domestic box office. They reportedly haggled Microsoft down from $15m plus 15 per cent. The film's producer is Columbia Pictures' former president Peter Schlessel, who captained Spiderman, Charlie's Angels 2 and Something's Gotta Give. |

Ah. Sam Fisher has a cool voice too. My take on it is, if they're going to ruin it by making a movie, they should probably just the guy who already does the voice of Master Chief to walk around in the suit. Or they could pull a Darth Vadar and have him played by two different people. |

"upgrades"  But seriously.. it can not be The Rock, he's busy fucking up DOOM at the moment.. and for fuck's sake, DON'T LET MASTER CHIEF TAKE OFF THE HELMET! It's part of the character, so don't screw with it. I like the idea of it being Michael Ironside, I liked him in Starship Troopers (regardless of how bad the movie was). |

I just like to keep up on the news, and when an actor talks about how much better Iraq was with Saddam at the helm (etc. etc etc....), he ceases being an actor in my mind. I can't "see" them as a character anymore. All I see on the screen is "blah...blah...blah... America sucks. blah...blah...blah... baby killers. blah...." |

Remember Wilson from Home Improvement?
Never saw his face? Do the same for the master chief. If his helmet is off - use camera angles to conceal the face. That is part of who he is - the anonymous soldier, doing his duty. That is why he is called "Spartan 117" not "Jimmy Smith." As far as who plays his body, I dont care - do it like Darth Vadar, dub in the voice later. |

+1 The "Vader treatment" is the way to go for this. Get the guy(s) that can do the "body work" and cast the voice talent separate. Do NOT show the Master Chief's face under ANY circumstances! Hmmm... I wonder what they're going to do for Cortana? I loved the actress that did the voice work for Halo (haven't played Halo 2). The chemistry between her and Master Chief was a big part of the fun of the game. |

I wonder what story line they would tell? From the beginning?...ie Halo? or from Halo 2 ?or after? One of the best parts of the game is the story. I hope they don't fuck it up. The script from the game is a very, very good story.
I would almost hope the whole thing will be computer generated graphics....no live actors. +1 on the "Vader" treatment. Right at the beginning of Halo2 it shows the Chief putting his helmet back on....all you see is his shoulders. It adds so much to the game to not know what he looks like. My boys went through the roof when I told them it will be a movie. My six year old is getting way too good at this game. We play with highschool students that I teach, and he regularly kicks their butts; as does his older 11yr old brother. Many of my students leave feeling a little embarrassed after getting the shit kicked out of them by little guys.  We still have the most fun playing it on Legendary in co-op mode.

That's what I'm hoping. Midgets running around in grunt costumes will not work. They stuck to animation for the Final Fantasy movie, I hope they repeat that with Halo. |

I hope they dont screw the pooch on making realistic prop weapons for this. I mean its a first person shooter, thats half the fun!
+1 On Michael Ironsides Sam Jackson can be the Gunnery Sergeat in the beginning and the one thats fighting hand to hand in the last sequence of the original Halo. Who is going to be Cortana, has to some thats hot in holo form. Who should play Captain Keys? |

Things that wold keep the HALO movie from sucking:
CG only, no live action. Original voice cast for the main characters, i.e. Master Chief (John, Spartan 117, whatever), Cortana, Sarge Johnson, etc. Stick to the original game script. A lot of people who see the movie probably won't have played the games and will get confused if they're simply dropped into the plot somewhere in the middle. That'd be like getting someone started on Star Wars by showing them Return of the Jedi. Don't let the guy who did Mortal Kombat come within fifty yards of the studio on threat of death. Sure, I enjoy the Mortal Kombat movie in the same perverse way I enjoy crushing cockroaches under my boots, but seriously: keep him the frick away. Same goes for the Resident Evil guys. Again, I enjoyed the movies, but they're hardly up to HALO standards. And now, geeks with more money that I've got!     w00t! |

Screw getting a star to play master chief. Get someone who can act and forget wether they have had a big movie or not.
