Handguns: Yes.
Longguns: No. All handguns are registered at the time of sale. All private party transactions (hand & longguns) have to go through an FFL (there are a few exceptions to that). You are required to register all your handguns within 60 days of moving here (at $14 PER GUN). |

I was a Mass resident till a couple years ago- New Hampshire is such a breath of fresh air. CCW took me 15 mins to fill out at the police station, and the lady cop was even telling me "I bet you're glad you live in NH now." 2 days later, my CCW permit arrived in the mail. Some Mass police chiefs were nice, mine was, but others were real jerks, especially about Class A's and "All Lawful Purposes" on cards. |

Thanks to emmenint domain - now they can!  MD - We have some gay ass waiting period for handguns and  "assault weapons."Of course this ignores the fact that I can order an "evil" m4 upper from Bushmaster, then cash and carry my new "HBAR sporter" take it home and make it evil in 5 minutes or less. |

Yep. I bought shotshells @ Kittery many years ago. I was young. They just wanted money. I left thinking 'wait, don't they want a driver's license? My FID?' My father said 'this is what it's like in a free state'. My town is very laid back about LTC A-ALP. I got one at 21 years of age. I had a dozen supporting documents ready, my certs as an instructor, letters from the gun club, etc. The only questions asked were 1. Are you Ben? 2. Are you paying with a check? Quick and painless. |

Doc - I only register guns that are in MA.
Also, registration takes place when the guns come into MA (within 7 days IIRC) or are transferred from person to person. Private parties with an LTC can do face to face transfers....you just have to fill out the damned FA-10. Look at it this way - it's like hitting yourself on the head with a hammer. It feels so good when it stops. |

More or less no.
We have to get a "hand gun purchase permit" to buy hand guns. That card gets you out of being called in on the 4473 for either. The city of Omaha is another story though. They want all hand guns registered.

Here in NC you have to get a "permit to purchase" a handgun. (For all handgun purchases, even between private parties) On the other hand, the State doesn't know what you purchased with it. So, there is no firearm registration in NC, other than NFA of course.

Only transfers are registered in MA- not the actual firearm.
A minor point, but it's no different than the 4473 from Ye Feds. F'rinstance, people moving into MA do NOT have to register any guns already owned. Washington State requires "special" state paperwork and a waiting period for handguns (waiting period waived if you have a CCW permit), long guns and shot guns are "cash and carry" after you pass the NICS.
Private party transfers have no requirements, although there is a voluntary "Handgun Private Disposition/Transfer Form".
