I know a hurricane isn't a laughing matter, but I was expecting this to be BOTD.

EDIT to remove red-x. NASA changes their image name when they do an update darn it .
At least I don't have to stock up on too much gas for this one. Not for $2.62 a gallon.

You poor bastards can't catch a break, can you!!!
Good luck and stay safe! |

Only a tropical storm.
I won't even bother to close the front door. When Jeanne came through last year, I slept in my own bed and listened to the house as it withstood sustained winds over 100 MPH. CJ |
Jeanne was a sissy. Andrew was major. Really major! Katrina has potential to gain strength from her 8 mph travel speed and hundreds of miles of really warm water. She'll be a bitch when she hits, but not as bad as Jeanne IMO. I'm not sure i'd like to go thru another Andrew type catastrophe, although now my SHTF prep is solid! I was completely unaware of what a hurricane could do until I got hit by and dealt with the aftermath of Andrew. HS1 |

Oh yeah. In honor of the 13 year anniversary of Hurricane Andrew,

that really blows, i wanted to move to florida but CA is just so much nicer, i thought it would be similar to CA but really as far as weather and climate so cal is the nicest place in the USA.
Yeah but Florida is still a free state. Full auto friendly too. Warm water and good diving. |
AND great fishing! |

Just moved here a month ago. Looks like this is going to be my first tropical-storm/hurricane since getting here. I'm a little north of West Palm Beach but I'll still get hit it looks like. Should be interesting. Storm shutters were supposed to have been installed a couple of months ago but the company has been dragging their feet. |
Meh. Unless she gets a lot stronger in a hurry, I'm not even going to think twice about this one. Just and inconvenience.
I'm in Jupiter. Where are you? |
I'm filin' up tonight. 1. 22 gallon car 2. 34 gallon diesel truck 3. 2 5 gallon gas cans 4. 30 gallon gas caddy 5. 12 gallon skiff boat 6. 28 gallon BW boat 7. 45 gallon pontoon boat There goes my ammo money. |
Yeah, we probably won't lose any roofs. But we probably WILL lose power for a day or two and that means no AC and you are protecting your property all the damn time. |
That's almost $500 in gas, assuming they're all close to empty. |
I thought we didnt consume that gas, wasnt it for export? |
1. 22 gallon car - 1/3 tank. 2. 34 gallon diesel truck - Front tank 1/4; Rear tank 1/2. 3. 2 5 gallon gas cans - Empty 4. 30 gallon gas caddy - Empty 5. 12 gallon skiff boat - 8 gallons 6. 28 gallon BW boat - Reading empty; probably about 1/4 tank 7. 45 gallon pontoon boat - 25 gallons. So, I probably have 120 gallons to buy today. At $2.50 that is $300! |
well here's a tip: Go buy a bunch of 3/4 in plywood and a dozen tarps now becasue you'll need 'em eventually. |
Reminds me of Andrew in 1991. Similiar path across Florida but Andrew was a cat. 4 when it hit Homestead.
I've got a 23'-6" center console with a 120 gal tank feeding a Yamaha 200 HP 2-stroke. I put 102 gal in it last weekend at the marina for a $330 purchase! You big truck boys wanna talk poor fuel economy? How 'bout <3 mpg at OPTIMUM cruise speed (~28 mph). That's OK, though, 'cause boats are a BLAST! |
Not to nitpick but Andrew was in '92. |
I'm the inshore guy. I mooch rides for the offshore fishing. My buddy's 26' Contender with twin 150s gets 1.1mpg when we go offshore. |

OVERTIME
So if Miami gets hit FEMA can say we already paid you, right? |
P.S. that is one puny ass Hurricane! I have seen T-Storms worse than that!

I'm right with ya. |

Here's latest infrared...
The animated version shows almost no westerly movement for now - just a rather unorganized blob boiling so far. I went out on the balcony and my guess is 10-15 MPH breeze so far up here on Cocoa Beach. Might be too far north here for much more than that. We'll see what the heat today does to this pup . |
Just out of curiosity, do the big home centers jack-up the price of plywood when trouble is brewing?
twonami: They could. I bought some propane tanks at the local Home Depot store in Nov 1999 for $27 each. In Feb 2000, they had lowered the price to $24.
At least this one won't be very destructive, as far as winds. Rainfall is the big threat with this one. It may drop a deluge on the area it effects.
I'm kinda hoping the remnants track across KY. We could use the rain here. |
Palm Beach Co. schools are closing at noon today.........pussies.
My office up in Jupiter (15 miles north of West Palm) may be closed tomorrow. The Big Man is waiting to see what today's 11am NHC update looks like before deciding. |
Cat 1 at the most. What you need to worry about is the possible 15 inches of rain if she hangs around long.
Stuart. Just off of rte 1 |
