My mother will be going in for knee replacment surgery tomorrow.  This will be a "total" knee replacement on her left knee.  They will be replacing her right knee in November.

Thanks in advance.

Best wishes.  My aunt went through that a couple of years ago.  Good therapy afterwards is critical.  Probably more important than the operation itself.

She went through a lot to have her procedure done, but she is much better for it now!

Good luck to her!!

Deej, I am sure she will do fine.  Make sure you help her and encourge during the rehab process. Its going to hurt and its going to be hard but she could probably use you at her side.

Its important for her to get up and start getthing her mobility back right away.  People that sit on their asses tend to get other complications.  Blood clots, infections, you name it.

She wiped your ass for you when you were a kid and fed you, now take care of her.

Best wishes for your mom.  Tell you wont be able to take her anywhere because she will be setting metal detectors off.

At her "knee replacment class" she got a little silver card, that she gives to the TSA/metal detector operators when the metal detector goes off.

I know you're worried but they are getting so good at those replacements.  Your mom should breeze through it no problem.  The prayers you need are that you'll be able to keep track of her once she gets new knees.  She'll be off to the races.

My grandfather had both of his knees done at the same time (crazy??).   It went well except he has had a few complications on one of them.  He seems pretty happy other than not being able to kneel down (I guess this is one of the drawbacks).  She'll do fine, just don't let her overdue it at first!

UPDATE

All is well. The surgery was a success.  w00t!

We went to the hospital at 6:45 Central to get my Mom there.  They took her in at 8:30 but didn't get started till 10:10, and about 12:30 she was done.  However, she had problems in Recovery waking up so she didn't come to her room till 3:15.  But she is okay(a little groggy) but all is well.

It's been a helluva day but I'm glad the worst parts over.

Thanks again for your prayers.  Deej86

UPDATE
All is still well today.  We (sister and I) went to see my Mom around 1:30 today, she was on oxygen b/c of the recovery issue, she is off and is better.

She went to Physical Therapy twice and it went well, she was on a walker, except her knee did "give out" during one of the sessions but other than that she is okay. I didn't get to see her in PT though, she did go while I was there.

She was in a wheelchair when she was in the room, and even got up and used a walker to get to the bathroom.

I don't mean to rant, but one of her nurses is driving me crazy.  And not in a good way.  She constantly uses baby talk around my mom.  When her food was bought, she told my mom to "gobble gobble", and then asked if she was "comfy womfy."  Today when they took her blood sugar(mom is diabetic), this nurse said she was going to get her a "clothie".  rant off.

Just wanted to let you all know  that all is well.

UPDATE
Everything is still good.  I actually got to go to her PT session and see her do her exercises, she accomplished her goal of getting to bend to 90 degrees (w00t!) She was on 2 IV's and is on only 1 now(the good painkiller!)

When she's going "home"(going to a friend of ours that's a retired pastor) is still up in the air.  Maybe tomorrow, maybe Monday, it's still TBD.

Thanks everyone.
