Man's 3.078-inch hair raises eyebrows

SARANAC, N.Y. -- A 43-year-old upstate New York man has made the Guinness World Records in a new entry for the longest eyebrow hair.

Frank Ames of Saranac in Clinton County measured in at 3.078 inches.

"I don't know why it grows like that; it just always has," Ames told the Press-Republican of Plattsburgh.

Ames' journey toward notoriety began almost two years ago when a co-worker at Bombardier Corp. noticed the bushy brow and suggested he try for a record.

Ames then decided to go for it, but discovered no such category existed.

So, he made a phone call to Guinness and was sent a bunch of forms to fill out and rules for officially getting recognized.

Ken Joy, a machinist and measuring expert at Bombardier, measured the hair in February 2004 with Plattsburgh Mayor Daniel Stewart and the city's entire Common Council standing by as witnesses to the event.

Now, Ames is on page 24 of the 2006 edition, in the "Body Parts" section.

The longest they have been is about 1.5".

if I worked with him I'd have bought him this instead

I have one hair on my right eyebrow that grows much faster than the rest, it's gotten up to about 1.5 inches before my wife made me cut it.

I told her it was my lucky hair but she wasn't buying it.

It keeps growing back so maybe I should train for the Guinness book!

Let's see, a guy whos job is "measuring expert" holds a world record for a length of a body part.

I have a rogue blonde chest hair that has been known to go unnoticed by me to a length of eight inches.

Imagine finding a fine blonde hair on your chest eight inches long!
