2 Wal-Mart workers shot to death in parking lot
Hunt for gunman goes on

Two Wal-Mart "cart-pushers" were shot to death Tuesday in a shooting at a Northwest Valley store, according to a Wal-Mart Stores Inc. spokeswoman. The suspect was still on the loose.

The shooting occurred Tuesday afternoon in the parking lot of a Wal-Mart Supercenter at 83rd Avenue near Union Hills Road. Police had initially suggested a third person was shot and injured but that report proved erroneous.

Delia Garcia, a Wal-Mart spokeswoman, said that somebody pulled into the parking lot and shot two workers who gather shopping carts in the parking lot.

She said the store was closed and did not know when it would reopen. Company officials were working to take care of the rest of the employees, Garcia said.

"We are absolutely devastated," she said. "This is a tragic event. Our thoughts are with the victims and their families."

Wal-Mart employee Vernom Anders, 72, said he heard six or seven shots just after 1 p.m. Anders, a Wal-Mart greeter, was standing just inside the door.

"It was two different sets (of shots)," Anders said.

He immediately looked around and decided to try and keep everybody inside the store, just as a supervisor told him that the police had been called.

"We have never had this kind of problem here before," said Anders, who has worked at that Wal-Mart since it opened about three years ago.

As Anders tried to keep people inside the store, word was spreading among those inside about something happening outside, said shopper Catherine Adams, 48. People started pushing and wanted out of the store, she said.

"Word of mouth started spreading inside, and I just got out," the Arrowhead Ranch resident said. "I saw people panicking and going toward the front."

Peoria-resident Lisa Crider, 35, said the store was filled with screaming people, who were running trying to get out.

"It was just pure chaos," Crider said. "You wouldn't think that on this side of town this would happen."

Crider, who was shopping in the store and also works there at night, was near the back of the store. She initially tried to stay inside the store, but ended up running outside. She saw one African-American man, who appeared to have gunshot wounds in his chest, lying about 30 or 40 yards from the front door. He appeared dead.

Another man, who also appeared to be dead, was lying on the ground almost under a car.

"It's just so shocking. I've never seen a dead body before. It was just chaos," Crider said. "We heard everybody screaming, 'There's a shooting! There's a shooting! There's a shooting!'"

And it's shit like this that causes me to keep my outings in "sheeple containment zones" to off-peak hours and keep exposure time to a minimum.

The Super Wal-Mart where this occurred is located a few short miles from my house.  It is located in a very nice part of Phoenix that borders both new family and retirement dwellings.  I have shopped that store on more than a few occassions.

The fucking rat bastard that committed murder shot two unsuspecting teenagers as they were in the parking lot collecting shopping carts.  He coldly and deliberately shot each of the kids multiple times.

A couple of store patrons observed the crime and followed said fuck-tard into his neighborhood.  They reported the license number of his car to the Glendale police who took over from there.

They showed the guy on the news tonight.  Single, probably in his 60s, Asian descent, last name of Liu.

That sucks but if it were at the Wal Mart bu me I would suspect a Gang hit. Most of the cart pushers sell dope in the parking lot. Just walking through the parkign lot you jave to walk past 10 employees smoking and joking and generally not working while you have to move 3 carts out of a spot just to park.

By the way, Mac hit it on the head.  A no firearms sign would have changed everything.  Maybe now they'll put up a sign and hire some more unarmed security guards.

I agree with Airwolf as I usually do.  Whether the shooting was outside or not, I refuse to be held against my will by a fucking retail store.  If someone had a CCW, they might have needed to be outside to stop the shooting.  Not with a wally world manager keeping you INSIDE!

I like how that person said this side of town.  The west is shitty in way more places than the east valley.  Unless you go way out to the new developments.

ETA: That's far enough west and north that I do think it's a fine neighborhood.

They can't even protect their own people

My first thought is that this guy had probably just purchased a rifle there, and the sporting goods guy slipped up and accidentally sold him some ammo at the same time (that's a big no-no, right?).  I mean, we're all a bunch of crazed killers who are on the verge of committing mass murder, if we could just somehow manage to buy a gun and some ammo simultaneously from Wal-Mart.  And even though the manager escorts gun buyers out of the store, that's really not enough.

Anyway, I guess that's not what happened in this case... but let it serve as a heads-up: rather than simple walking gun buying customers out of the store, they need to call in a police escort to ensure the person actually leaves the parking lot and goes home.  While they're at it, a 72 hour surveillance should be conducted as well, just to ensure the gun buyer remains stable.

Obviously the shooting happened in the parking lot because WalMart did not have any "No Firearms Allowed" signs posted at the entrances to the parking lot. Any idiot can clearly see that!

I think the familes of the victims should get a lawyer and sue the Waltons for not protecting their employees by posting "No Firearms Allowed" signs all along the perimeter of the WalMart parking lot.
