That's right I went out and purchased a Smith & Wesson 460 XVR

.460 S&W Magnum 8-1/2" barrel with compensator on Saturday 8/20/05

First of Five shots were .45 Long Colt CCI Blazer 200 gr JHP it made a splash in the water about two feet high.

Second Shot .454 Casull 300 gr XTP 1500 fps loaded custom by CNC Ammo out of Macedonia Illinois - Splash about 5 feet high

Third through the Fifth shot .460 S&W Hornady 200 gr SST about 2200-2300 fps

BIG BOOM ----- WATER 15 feet in the air WOW!

The gun is very manageable with any of the loads and felt recoil to me was like shooting my Charter 2000 Bulldog .44 Special.  The exception of course is the muzzle rise.

I think this gun is going to be very popular and should out sell the 500 Magnum.
The versatility of three different ammo's is just cool.

I think the .454 Casull cartridge will become more popular because of the great handling ability of the 460 XVR gun.

Definitely a must-get IF the money will allow down the road.  It's versatility is incredible.

Most variety of handloads available in any gun Ive seen or heard of.

Looked at one a few weeks ago, very nice, AFAIAC a much better choice then the 500S&W. Better selection of ammo, flat trajectory and more aerodynamic bullets. SO SO on the compy looking garbage on the end of it but with a hi pressure load it should work OK. Still have not really seen the PSI rating, a stiff 454 is 65,000PSI or so so I would assume it exceeds it a bit. I have seen the 454 pushed light and fast, around 2100 FPS but not really all that accurate, it does best at 14 to 1900FPS with low speed loads doing great also. Twist gain might work well as fast as it's accelerating, has to be some fast powders. Would be good for deer hunting.

Damn, I want one so bad. 3 different cartridges, one gun, it's like a wet dream. But with guns.
