Which science fiction series do you think had the best writing?

I am a fan of all of these, but Babylon 5 has always stood out in my mind because of it's superior writing and the story arc.  However, the new re-imagined Battlestar Galactica is pretty damned awesome..........   It may surpass B5 if it keeps going strong.

What say you?

Tough to say.  For me, it would be a three way tossup between the new BSG, Farscape and Firefly.  Those three were the best science fiction series, and some of the best shows, that I've seen.

I have the entire Babylon 5 series on DVD. That gets my vote.

Seasons 2, 3 and 4 were among the best written and acted I've ever seen on television. YMMV of course but the love and excellence that those stories were written with just shows through. Very ambitious and ultimately, very satisfying watching.

/dang I gotta bust those out again!

I would have to say it was a toss up between Babalon5 and Star Trek Next Generation.

Deep Space 9 was good for a while then it got to Soap Opera like.   Then near the end with the Wormhole Wars things started picking up.

I have to say that the best writing was in Farscape, but had Firefly run longer, it might very well have taken the crown.

Edited to add (after reading everyone else's responses:) D'OH!!!

The original Twilight Zone!  Of course.

THEN Farscape and Firefly.

Farscape kicked ass even though it wasn't a totally SciFi original(think it aired for a short time on a network).

I love Claudia Black and sported wood that she was in some of the opening episodes this season.

edit:

voted "other" in favor of Farscape before even reading this thread.    That was one cool assed show, some of the Scorpy episodes were great.    They get a little out of order even when they do a marathon though, I seriously need to get the DVD collection for Farscape.

I did like STTNG, but the first season was pretty bad in the writing/character development.  It matured into a pretty good series.

BG - TNS has been awesome from the get-go.  A little early to know if it will have the longevity of TNG, but far superior in its first season.

I was never able to get into any of the other shows in your poll, though I did like the Stargate movie.  Firefly is growing on me.  Thanks to those on this board who made me aware of it.

ETA - choices from your poll.

X-files is the best IMO.

Babylon 5 gets my vote for #1

The new Battlestar Galactica has some very good stories and character interaction as well. I like it that they have concentrated on that instead of just flashy explosions and endless space battles.
