I argue that just about everyone has a equal chance of being wounded or killed
 My argument is that there is no front lines so therefore its not just going to be the infantry fighting the war like in past engagements.Yes infantry is responsible for clearing buildings and room in very hostile areas but if the insurgents setup a ambush i would tend to believe that infantry would be much better trained to survive. |

Infantrymen will spend a lot more of their time out and about looking for trouble.
It'll depend to a large extent where you're at. Some areas have a lot more infantry-style contacts, others are more 'ambush-the-convoy' deals. Sometimes an infantry patrol will be hit because they're there and a convoy isn't. Sometimes they'll be hit because they're escorting the convoy that is... NTM |

At least here, any job that takes you outside the wire looking for the enemy is of course going to be more dangerous.
Be that an infantry platoon hunting the enemy or one of our engineer teams who go out and look for IED's. |

Wouldn't just about everyone be outside the wire? It would seem like, MI, MP, Armor, Engineers,transpo, would all spend most of their time outside. |

going into an enemy stronghold as a grunt is a lot more dangerous than running a convoy of tp from one base to another. both are dangerous for now but one is a lot more dangerous than the other. |

right now, unlike previous wars, the casualties are distributed across the job spectrum not just infantry. Due to a shortage of infantry and the lack of need for heavy assets, many engineer, armor, artillery and other units are assigned patrol and infantry type duties. I am serving in an infantry battalion and while we have had more than our share of casualties (16 KIA, 56 WIA) there are non infantry units with similar numbers. As far as who gets wounded the spec 4 /corporal rank is most likely (probably because there are more of them) we've had only two LT's and one CAptain wounded.

Infantry dominates the casualty lists right now.
They are the ones running convoys in the dangerous parts of town. I read the army times every week, its still the infantry taking most (but not as disproportionatly as in previous conflicts) casualties. Due to the decentralized nature of the engagements, the infantry squad and fire team leaders are taking it harder than LT |

Almost everyone killed is by an IED on the road. If infantry are spending a lot of time mounted and driving around then they are at greater risk.

so mounted is more dangerous than dismounted, I was talking to a few guys and they were saying mechanized infantry was really kicking ass and light fighters were taking more of a beating. But then again these guys were from 3rd ID so they might be a bit biased  sounds like the typical ambush is IED, followed by small arms and RPG's then the fuckers will run or fight till the finish. |

God, no. LSA Anaconda had a population not far off 20,000 when I left it. Of that lot, about 500 of us, probably less (Tankers, Engineers, Cav Scouts and the odd MP or Infantry types) , were involved in patrolling operations, figure another 100 were pilots et al, and you had the convoy runners (Truckers, ADA, MPs, occasional Infantry or Artillery and even the Air Force), which, being very, very generous, let's say another 1,000-1,500. Don't know, I'm a tanker. But the MI types in my battalion, barring the one MI Lieutenant who somehow gained command of the scout platoon, generally didn't go out and about. I cannot speak for other units, so your mileage may vary.

Mech infantry are more likely to be well-protected in Bradleys or Strikers. Light infantry are more likely to travel in Humvees. GunLvr |
