Right ear hasn't been right for the past couple weeks. Last few days it's started to "ooze" a little clear fluid.

Have a flight physical scheduled for this Tuesday, and can take care of it then, but my ear is starting to bug me a little more (headache), and the clear fluid that seeps out (not a lot, but just enough to keep the inside of my ear wet) is also starting to make me wonder.

My first thought was that my brains were seeping out, but those have since long departed my body. Do I have a busted eardrum, excess wax up in there, or are my stomach fluids starting to seep out of my skull?

Ouch. That didn't help me feel any better!!

No head trauma that I can remember

, but we are always the last to know.

How do I clear up an ear infection? Hydrogen peroxide?

If you'd recently experienced any severe head trauma I'd be concerned. As it is, I'd strike it up to excess fluid buildup, an ear infection, added problems due to a sinus infection or a combination thereof.

Haven't had a cold in a long time, either. Feel really good except for the problem with my ear. Doesn't seem to affect my flying, but we never go above 9000 feet or so, anyway.

I don't even know if I've ever had an ear infection. Never had this type of problem before.

Check with your doc pretty ASAP, as we had a guy in recently with clear fluid draining from his ear and it was cerebrospinal fluid leaking from his brain.

No shit. We injected radioactive tracer into his spinal cord in the lumbar spine area and imaged him 6 hours later, and the ear drainage contained the tracer meaning his headaches were being caused by the CSF that "floats" and shelters the brain in the skull was leaking through his ear.

Could be an ear infection, but it would be generally painful, but if the ear is asymptomatic and just drains clear fluid (especially the "clear" part) I would get checked for a CSF leak.

I knew a woman who was hit by a car, and had cerebro-spinal fluid oozing from her ear till a second trip to the doctor.

She actually kept a tiny vial of the stuff in her office, and always warned us if she made a bad decision, to remember that she was running a quart low.

That just happened to me recently. Had major earache. Thought I was going to die...then suddenly it got much better...and started leaking clear fluid.

Turned out according to the ENT that my eardrum had ruptured.

Had to fly in a few days and doc said that if it didn't clear before then that he would lance it to keep if from tearing on the flight.

It didn't get better so I figured that I needed do get it done. (Doc was ex airforce doc and said he had dealt with this a lot so I figured he knew what he was doing)

So I had him lance it...much better...started improving immediately.

Then a week later I got the bill. $1200 freaking dollars for a three minute procedure!! Even with insurance I had to pay over $250.
