Id get Body Armor, but thats me, the way I look at it, i already have 1 AR, and thats all I need (but not all I want
 ) and Scopes will always be available.

The answer for a target shooter is the optic.
The answer for the opportunist is the body armor. You can always use iron sights..but you may someday need body armor. Also be prepared for the people calling you names for owning body armor for a .....rainy day. |

IMHO Rifle, check Body Armor, check Fancy Optic, check If you have none of any of the above, fill in the blank. BTW, Rifles have sights. |

Me, personally, I've had hundreds of occasions to use one. Never needed body armor yet...knock on wood. |

me neither had a couple of the cheaper IIA vests wore one while being range officer at IPSC (get the occasional scary newbie) I don't do that anymore the one was brand new but almost 10 years old i sold it cheap to a buddy who is a Hospital ninja in a bad part of town the other that was dirty and worn I shot ....alot yeah know what 10+ year old kevlar works fine for 22 9mm 40 45 shotgun , no so good for 223 and 308

Buy more ammo. You can always use a hail of bullets as your cover and body armor.

Ok, I have a couple sets of armor and I really don't think there is that much benefit. I mean, are you really going to need it. I would say get the optic. Get the rifle set up completely like you want it then move on. I think the idea of having some "armor" is somewhat over stated in its importance. It really depends on your need. Are you going to be hitting rooms in a SWAT scenario, where there is a good chance of getting shot. Or are you going to be " bugging" out to save your ass. I for one would not where that shit if I could avoid it. Good luck.

Fixed it for ya! You can't get Level 3 Body Armor without plates. If you are a civilian why the Armor?? When and where are you going to need armor? Unless you are a paranoid the sky is falling kinda guy who would carry it in his vehicle and everywhere he goes then by all means go for it. If its going to collect dust in the garage then don't waste your money. If you already have a rifle then get an upper. Or a scope. Get something you can use rather than something to look at. just my .02 cents - Go |

If you have everything else, I'd go with the body armor.
 Famastone construction NIJ Certified Level III "Stand-Alone" plates from Israel, available from armytacshop.com/product_info.php?cPath=37_39&products_id=52 These are made of a very lightweight, yet incredibly sturdy material. omg read the thread slacker.... the vest im buying is releasable sorta looks like that. soft armor and plate carrier. comes with soft armor and carrier for 200$ its black. i think its a point blank vest

Dang, those are a lot lighter than my Level 4 plates, which are 7 lbs EACH. But I paid $175 each plate, not $500+ for the lighter ones... |

I'd say that the idea of adding some body armor makes some sense.
But I'm talking about concealable armor. The thought of walking around with the exterior wear tactical/ballistic plates, etc. strikes me as pretty absurd unless you're a SWAT officer. OTOH, having some light weight and concealable protection from handgun projectiles makes a bit of sense in a SHTF situation if you might need to ward off panicky folks away from your house. |

Although I am not a member of a milita group, I consider myself part of the well-regulated citizen milita of my State.
I have equipped myself appropriately and that means L4 Standalone plates in vest among other things. |

Skip the body armor. We are about to have revolutionary body armor available that will blow away the flimsy pistol proof stuff and make stiff non flexible rifle plates obsolete.

I originally got my armor for work (worked in a gunshop/range), and kept the armor for home use (you never know if you'll have a home invasion or such). Seeing scenes from the LA riots/Florida homeowners trying to keep looters at bay, etc, convinced me I'd made the right decision keeping the armor. Got some Level 4 plates for Y2k; what the hell, why not? Wish I had a line on some lighter plates though. Tried on the vest with plates the other day, and you know, despite my losing 25 lbs, the dang thing seems way too heavy. Guess this 40-year old bod needs to work out more. But I'd be glad I had the armor, should something bad ever happen. I see it as cheap insurance. |
