I remember a few years back, some group member signed a ticket for a fan and cancelled the rest of the show's because he was horrified at the prices they were charging. Prices were dropped, people got refunds. An old wind bag like Billy Joel gets like 200.00 per ticket.... |

Twenty five years ago I was paying 10-15 per ticket locally. Last year I paid around $30 per ticket locally. I can see THAT price given the effects of inflation. I can't see the 200/ticket range, but as was said, people pay it. I don't know why. Putting on live shows is an expensive proposition, but I recall reading an article about the inflated prices of tickets a few years ago that said that acts realized a decade or so back that they could get away with charging much higher prices than they were doing at the time, and very shortly thereafter there was a significant jump in ticket prices......

Part of that price is the cost of the building. Since so many communities have constructed playpens for the rich and many concerts are held in these venues, it is no surpruse they charge high rates for such events.

When I went and saw the Stones back in '90, the tickets were like $35 each and that was a lot for tickets back then.
Now $35 will get you the cheap seats in big concerts. THe last concert that I saw was Styx w/ Frampton and the Nelson Twins opening for them. Didn't cost a dime for me, as my friend got them for free, because she was friends with a couple and the husband worked for Miller, which was a sponsor. You know how many tickets are contracted out for promos? A lot. Seems like just about every radio station in that genre has tickets for the show, and they are usually some good tickets towards the end of the promo. |

record artists dont hardly make anything by record sales anyways (producers and other people putting their hands in the money jar, you would too if you did something for them), so they make up for it in concerts sales and merchandise.

Warn the Jeep driving concert goers now that Mr. Clean is coming!!!   IIRC the Big and Rich tickets were something like 85 bucks. I want to take my dad and sister to the Oak Ridge Boys Christmas Special, and those tickets are like 44 bucks. |

I saw a show once that said that it's industry practice for the record company to take all the profit from the cd and the artist to get the profit from touring. That's why they're ALWAYS touring. YMMV.

Because artists, writers, studios and their executives need a lot of $$$ to pay for the jets, hookers and blow. Drive around LA or Nashville and see the $$$$$ from bozo's willing to shell out 100's for "entertainment" on Friday nite, yet get on the internet on Monday and whine about liberal artists (they are funding) wrecking America. Kills me how people will shell out $ to see a movie, then whine the next day about how anti-gun the star is??????

It's all about what YOU are willing to pay for something. I have paid 250 a seat to see Chicago. These were 4th row center tickets. Next Friday I'll be seeing Journey, I am in the 15th row and paid 289. a ticket. It's what I like and I am willing to pay for it. You might be an ammo whore or maybe you're into cars. I'm into sitting very close at concerts. Everyone has something they will spend godly amounts of money on but can't understand why someone else spends money in another area of entertainment. |

Last concert was the Stones in the early 90's - tix might have been 50 or 75
Nobody out there talented enough to warrant coughing up $20 for parking, standing in line for hours, with sweating half drunk/stoned fans who think they can sing BETTER than the artist (and will do so throughout the concert) all to get a seat 3 parsecs from the stage and a view of the tattoed cafeteria lady arms of the hag in front of you who has decided that she just has to stand on her chair for the whole fucking concert, then the privilege of paying $35 for a $4 t-shirt with cheezy printing to advertise for someone else.  (last best concert was SRV in the 80's) |

High cost of everything,greed,insurance, ect and mostly because people will pay it.
"shameless plug" Look around at country fairs--Durham fair in Durham CT is the last weekend in september-$12.00 adult ticket gets you free parking,free shuttle bus, a day at the country fair, a free concert by Randy Travis "shameless plug" Country fairs and state fairs have mostly country music ,some charge a few bucks for parking and extra for big name music but many like the DURHAM FAIR don't. Big risk is the concert is outside and weather is a crapshoot but you don't have to buy in untill the day of the fair so it all works . |

Most I ever paid was 100.00 a ticket to see Pink Floyd (Hubby is a fan, so in 1987 I bought him tickets as our first anniversary present---first anniversary is the paper one).
Best concerts ever attended: 3 doors down and Nickleback 7/2004 (Free) Billy Joel 1990 and 1998 (I paid 45.00 to see him then) Eagles in their Hell Freezes Over tour, 1994 paid 69.00 to see them...and they rocked |

Not me - thank God!  (some administrator woman that she works with)I hate concerts. Once, I bought a good friend of ours an airline ticket from Los Angeles, so he could fly into town and go to a Sting concert with her, just to get me off the hook. Now that's a friend!

Ticket prices here in the Cleveland area are sky high. And the thing that pisses me off even more is how they distribute ALL the good the tickets to scalpers or other ticket agents, who sell them at many times face value. I have gone to order tickets within 2 minutes of them going on sale and the best seats available at that time were nose blead seats. So I will never go to another concert again (except if Pink Floyd tours) unless they change their evil ways.

Paid $24 for a concert last night.
Dark New Day Crossfade Seether Standing room...was in about the 6th row most of the time until people started going crazy and pushing all over and the crowd surfing.  My sister's boyfriend went on stage before Seether was done playing "Broken". Met them and got lead singers autograph. Concert was absolutely awesome. Definitely worth the $24. |

You obviously haven't been to a concert lately. The main act does good to go an hour and 45 minutes. Opening acts usually go for about 30-45 minutes. Two and a half hours tops.

I just paid $120 for a pair of LAWN seats for Jimmy Buffet 31 Aug at Verizon in Indy, and that is a bargain considering the show's been sold out since March, same seats are going for over $100 each at brokers and on Egay!
