Tuesday, August 16, 2005; 10:51 PM LAWRENCE, Kan. -- A teenager found hanging from a dresser drawer with a coated bicycle chain lock around her neck apparently died while playing the "pass-out game," the girl's parents said. Kimberly Wilson, a 15-year-old student at Veritas Christian School in Lawrence, died last week. Her parents, Tim and Carol Wilson, began discussing the details of her death Monday because they wanted other parents to be aware of the dangers of playing the choking game, which cuts off the oxygen supply to the brain. Those who play achieve a type of "high," they said. "We are very close to our children, and we did not know this was going on," Tim Wilson said Monday. "There were no outward signs. This isn't like drugs or alcohol use, which a parent should be able to detect. "We want parents to know this is out there." The game has been in the news in recent weeks. Just last month, a 10-year-old Idaho boy was found dead, hanging from a tree. Authorities said he apparently died while trying to get high by playing the choking game. The case was similar to that three months ago in the Idaho town of Nampa, where 13-year-old Chelsea Dunn was found dead after apparently hanging herself in her closet. Tami Radohl, a Bert Nash Community Mental Health Center counselor at Southwest Junior High School in Lawrence, said the behavior is not uncommon. "This is going on in every junior high in Lawrence," Radohl said. Usually, the game involves one person causing another to pass out and, seconds later, reviving the unconscious peer. "It's like anything else that creates a high or a buzz; it can lead to addictive behavior," said Dr. Paul Loney, an emergency room physician at Lawrence Memorial Hospital. When addiction reaches the point of passing out alone, Loney said, "they're in deep trouble." Tim Wilson said his daughter did not commit suicide. He said the family has reason to believe Kimberly had played the choking game for at least a year, maybe two. "She had a history of playing this game," Wilson said. "Her death was accidental." |

Again?
WTF ever happened to teens smoking weed or getting drunk? Now they are intentionally choking themselves to get high? Good lord. |

Didn't you get the message, weed is worse than alcohol and choking combined. Thats why its illegal. Ban everything and they will find something, always have. I have seen people do this choking thing, the high last for maybe 5 seconds. I realy can't see the point other than it doesn't cost anything and you can't get tested for it. |

Yes, let's leave him alone to do his job- |

Ditto! WTF Are they thinking? Patty |

They probably can't find marijuana. Several friends that are cops say they haven't seen any in over a decade and several of the younger ones I know say they haven't seen it since they went to the police academy. Also, I know a group of three guys that drive to Nashville to buy it since that's the closest place they know they can find it. The three of them have used it for over 30 years, but are about to give it up since they have so much trouble getting it. When the kids can't get marijuana, they'll move on to other things for a thrill. Unfortunately many(most?) of those things are more dangerous. Call it an unintended consequence.z |

Trouble finding weed? Where the hell do you guys live? Every place I've evre lived has always had a bountiful crop of... ...Uh, nothing. It's hard to find here too. |

This is nothing new. I remember watching older kids(older than me at the time) doing it. Back in the 70's when there was free love and drugs galore...I missed out on that too.

She was probably masturbating as she was choking herself. Its called sexual asphyxia they choke themselves while they masturbate. I have seen three teen girls who have died like since the beginning of this year.

Me too. There were kids doing this 25 years ago. Kids today just dont know how to do it right You have to press on the sides of the neck; not the front Its similiar to girls liking being choked during sex..same thing. One of my good friends likes to pass out while shes having an orgasm. She tells the guys exactly what to do and how hard to squeeze. Never tried it myself but if I got the chance to do it with her, I most definately would!! |

Autoerotic Asphyxiation. |

I wasn't correcting, just clarifying. I've heard the term you used, also. I even saw a soft-core porn movie about it A few years ago, a kid died like this. What did his parents do? They created a web site all about it. No shit. It was something like www.howjasondied.com or something like that. Included the kids full name and his picture and warned other parents. NOT the way I want to be remembered. |

I could think of better ways to get my jollies...
...asphyxiating was never one of them. |
|
She didn't deserve to die for doing this though. Would have been better for her to only injur herself enough to go to the hospital and learn from it. Those that are saying that this is Darwin at work must have never done anything stupid in their lives.
I feel for the parents. |

Micheal Huchens of INXS checked out this way, although a lot of bondage was involved as well.

I've done some really stupid things, but choking myself on purpose never made the list. That is monumentally stupid. I can't think of one time in my youth where my ability to reason was so poor, that choking myself until I pass out seemed rational. |

I thought they found him hanging in his closet as an intentional suicide? Didn't his baby's mama leave him or something? |

Wesley Snips movie? In Japan? They were screwing & |

That's what I say. Stupid kids. Do something stupid and die? Oh well. I feel sad for her parents, for sure, but for her? Stupid kid. |
|
|
Kids forty years ago would hyperventilate and have someone squeeze their chest hard which induced unconsciousness. While unconscious for a few seconds you had hallucinations and weird dreams. I never heard of anyone dying from doing this but I suppose anything is possible. Kids have always done stupid things that could lead to unintentionally offing themselves. Sometimes you get a second chance and sometimes you don’t. |

No weed in South Carolina? http://www.usdoj.gov/ndic/pubs07/717/marijuan.htm "Marijuana is the most readily available and most widely abused drug in South Carolina, and the number of users is increasing. The rural areas of South Carolina, which have adequate precipitation, provide an environment conducive to the domestic cultivation of cannabis." Either your cop friends are REALLY REALLY high or they are the most oblivious officers on the beat! Kids, if you want to get choked out just join your local Brazlillian Jiu-Jitsu dojo... they would be happy to oblige! |

Sounds like autoerotic aspyxiation....
Darwin is my favorite prophet. |

bullshit. |

No, not "Red Sun". This one: Naked Obsession |

Maybe his cop friends are keeping it for themselves, cuz it's easier to get than beer? |
|||
|
You're right. I havent. And dont plan too. But if I did, and something happened, then it would be my fault for getting hurt/dying and I would blame myself. |
|
|
I figured that was probably what was going on, and they're omitting that part of it to spare the kids any further post-mortem embarassment. Jim |
