Seriously a person like me living in the city..seeing a huge tree fall like that in front of my eyes would be spectacular!
Thnx for sharing! |
I'd estimate it would have taken 3000 rds of 5.56x45 to take that tree down. Maybe less.
So, how old is it?
We had a tree that was probably a bit smaller, and it was about 70 years old. Here in Oxford, where there are many old trees, one had been recently cut down and I counted the rings, and it was over 150 years old. |
I really dont understand why people cut big trees like that down unless they are a health hazard. No big trees = ugly |
And what exactly is your house made of doll boxes? It is his tree. |
I wanted it out of the way, it had allready been hit by a car awhile back, and was damged, it was close to the road, so I decided to have it cut down.
Estimated age is 80 give or take a little bit. I have about a dozen more that are coming down in the next few months., The tree will be put to good use, FIREWOOD. |
Sarge,it is a tree, it does not have feelings, it is not murder.... |
when they get that big and they are right next to your house it does not take much for them to fall over, especially when they are standing all by themselves. They can really mess up a house, car, etc...... I live in South Alabama, we have had quite a few trees fall down in the last year thanks to storms. |
I can never get them to fall in the direction I want. Cost me a new bird bath for one of my buddy's neighbors once. I did manage to miss the garage, good thing we did the rope tied to the VW trick.
Well no shit Sherlock! of course it is his tree. Sgat1r5 |

I for one am not convince that trees don't have emotions They do feel stress after all, and they DO bleed. Sgat1r5 |

You do know that with out plants and trees we all die right? Sgat1r5 |
You're an idiot. |

What are you referring to? Oxygen? |
Its amazing how much bigger they are once they are on the ground.
Now that is the truth, I think they grow in a matter of seconds.... |
It's one tree sgtar15.
Go hold a protest sign to a professional logger. |
Amen. Sheep |
Geez, don't sweat that one tree. I got about a trillion more in the back forty that will pump out enough oxygen to make up for it...
If a tree falls in the forest and there is nobody there... Does somebody still Protest?
Tell that to the Weeping Willows. |

You need to cut a "wedge" out first. Cut it on the side you want it to fall towards. And allways fall a tree down hill, if your on a slope. Never just try to cut through the tree. I couldn't tell from the pic, but looks like he just cut around tree, straight across. Lucky no one got hurt. Fun cutting down trees! Travis |
No he cut a "wedge" on the far side, the cut from the back through. He is a good guy who knows his stuff about falling trees. I have used him for several other trees I needed cut down that I did not want to do. He is also Licensed, bonded and insured. |

WOW! What an intelectual come back THAT was. Do you know what sap is? Do you not realize that during a drought plants feel stress? Type trees and stress in Google and read the links. Or when they get pruned wrong they also under go stress? And why is it that if someone actually cares about nature they are labeled a wacko? Do you go into the forrest and leave trash everywhere or do you pick it up? Sgat1r5 |
Plants do not feel stress. Plants do not have a nervous system. Plants may become stressed, but they do not have feelings |
I'd like to share something my brother once told me.
"I was walking through the woods one time, and a came upon a pond. I had some change in my pocket so I took it out and was about to through it in. That's when I realized I was a City boy. I was about to through change into a natural body of water." |
Funny, you kill an unwanted animal, he is ok with it. Guy cuts down a tree (nice tree yes) and sarge thinks poorly of him. |
Everyone thinks poorly of me, I am used to it.... |
Plants DO become stressed. And of course they don't have a central nervous system. My first posts about plants having "feelings" was tongue in cheek mostly, but we still don't understand all of how they work yet. But with that said I like plants and trees.. Yes it is his tree and he can do whatever he wants with it. But have nice grown healthy trees aroung is a GOOD thing. I swear some of you people would call Teddy Roservelt a fucking liberal Sgat1r5 I just asked why he was cutting it down. |
When did I say I thought poorly of him? I asked a question! Can you people read? Sgat1r5 |
Cause there was a greenpeace dude in the top of it. |
To see how many cats they could kill when it landed? |
My good God man! You're a Wiccan!?!? |

Sarge you need to get a life........... AKASL |

I will concede that Trees bleed, however we could kill all of them and still have plenty of O2. Trees are less than 10% of the O2 that we get the rest is plants, alge, and photosynthetic bacteria. 90% is the alge and photosynthetic bacteria. Killing all trees would damage the food web, but Humans wouldn't die.
Cut them all down... just in case! |
Google "food chain" some time. You will be better for doing so.
Interesting facts coming from the guy with the name of Ender Wiggin. Good books. |
That is a stupid book. That boy is a total bastard and a bad friend. |
Tell us how you really feel. |

I cut 27 trees out of my yard after the second one fell on my house.
At first I loved those trees, then I began to HATE them. I could not get grass to grow, raking 200 plus bags of leaves twice a year, and then the damage to my house the second time was enough. I now have 2 trees in my yard and I love them again. |
I would hope you had that tree milled to at least get good lumber out of it.
Pains me to see some people (like a friend of mine) who paid $600 to have a beautiful pecan tree cut down and turned into mulch. Hell, I would have paid to have it milled and kilned if he would have let me know about it. |
