Arrest In Texas Protest Cross-Up
Waco man allegedly drove pickup through "Camp Casey" memorial www.thesmokinggun.com/archive/0816051texas1.html AUGUST 16--Meet Larry Northern. The Texas man, 59, was arrested last night and charged with criminal mischief for allegedly driving his pickup truck over wooden crosses erected near the roadside campsite of Cindy Sheehan, the California woman who has brought her antiwar protest to President George W. Bush's Crawford doorstep. A row of the memorial crosses, which carry the names of U.S. soldiers killed during the Iraq war, were destroyed when Northern, a Waco resident, allegedly drove his truck (which was dragging a pipe and chains) over them. The crosses are part of an encampment Sheehan has dubbed "Camp Casey" in honor of her late son, a 24-year-old Army Specialist killed in action last year. Sheehan has said she will not budge from the road leading to the president's ranch until he meets with her to explain "why our sons are dead." Northern is a Waco realtor and gun enthusiast who has served as president of a local "shooting sports facility" (click here to see Northern and fellow gun club officers posing in front of an American flag). |

Not sure how desecrating memorials to those KIA (no matter how manipulative and tendentious the message of the memorial was) helps. All it does is give the protestors something else to wail self-righteously about.
The mother is pathetic. So is the guy who runs over the memorial.
Who owns the property this "memorial" is on? Could this be an ILLEGAL construction of STATE/COUNTY property?
Maybe, but I can see how they are sick of it. If someone setup 2-3 PortaPoties in front of your home and camped out for weeks, became a media circus on a road that may usually only get 10 cars a day, you would probably snap too. |
I really enjoy how they had to throw in there gun enthusiast etc.. etc.. I'm sure it was the build up of years of gsr and clp in his grey matter that drove him to do what he did. I mean seriously WTF does being a gun enthusiast have to do with any damn thing they were reporting? I think he run over the wrong thing though, he should have run her over. I honestly wonder if her son would appriciate what she's doing.
Bingo. At this point I'd expect the town is just about ready to string up reporters in mass lynchings. Oh, and from the pics, it's closer to 30 portapotties. |
Would not be an issue if she did not put markers on the right of way.
+1 |
I would wait until she had to use the porta potty then bump into it, with a few friends. |

Where is the ACLU when we need them? What the Hell does this lady think she's doing???? Erecting CROSSES on PUBLIC LAND. How dare she!!!
It ceased being a memorial when the crazy bitch lost it and whored out her sons death into a cheap political statement.
It's no more a memorial than Michael Moore posting pictures of servicemen. Fuck 'em, it's not done out of respect for the dead, that's for damned sure. |
No shit. What a way to honor the dead. IMO the freak is only trying to boost her own notariety (sp?nazis?) This dude is my hero |
those idiots are NOT honoring the dead, they are spitting on thier memories with that "memorial"
other than destruction of property i don't really have a problem with what he did. |
Yeah, I agree, this wasn't a actual memorial. I also hate to be the one to say this, but I believe this to be a dupe. I saw a different thread about this a few minutes ago.
Whose property was this on ? |
First of all this thread was not the dupe. My thread was the dupe. However, I did ask if this was one of our Texas members. Here's the picture for reference: SBG BTW -- 82nd -- My question still stands. Were you serious? |
mom's a fucking sell-out.
and the dude with the truck, you missed her! swing back around and run her down. |
Yes I can see how well that would go over on the news. |
How can driving through trash on a roadside possibly be construed as "destruction of private property"?
Can I put an offensive, cheap, trashy, protest display up on public right of ways, and file charges at anyone who touches it? +1 on those who said this wasn't a memorial. A REAL memorial would be tasefully done by people who HONOR the dead. |
Can we take up a collection, send this Guy an SEBR and then, send Eric the Hun!
That way We'll have sent ... -Lawyers -Guns -and -Money Sorry, I was having a Warren Zevon moment there.... I suggest, we canonize this guy as an official AR15.com Saint. |

She has a place to camp now, wonder how long till he gets tired of her $hit...........
Bush Neighbor Allows War Protesters to Camp on His Land By Angela K. Brown Associated Press Writer Aug 16, 2005 ap.tbo.com/ap/breaking/MGBAP0B1HCE.html CRAWFORD, Texas (AP) - One of President Bush's neighbors will allow use of his land by dozens of war protesters who have camped in roadside ditches the past 11 days, giving them more room and halving their distance from Bush's ranch. Fred Mattlage, an Army veteran, said he sympathizes with the demonstrators whose makeshift camp off the winding, two-lane road leading to Bush's ranch has angered most residents. Mattlage said the group will be safer on his corner 1-acre lot. "I just think people should have a right to protest without being harassed," Mattlage told The Associated Press on Tuesday night. "And I'm against the war. I don't think it's a war we need to be in." Cindy Sheehan of Vacaville, Calif., started the vigil Aug. 6 to honor her son Casey, who was killed in Iraq last year. Sheehan has vowed to remain through Bush's monthlong ranch visit unless he meets with her and other grieving families. Mattlage's Monday night offer, accepted by protesters Tuesday, will put them about a mile from Bush's ranch, said Hadi Jawad of the Crawford Peace House, which is helping the group. Demonstrators said they would start moving their tents, anti-war banners and portable toilets to the new site Wednesday and hope to have the new camp set up in time for a dusk candlelight vigil. The vigil will be one of about 1,000 to be held across the country, an effort organized by liberal advocacy groups MoveOn.org Political Action, TrueMajority and Democracy for America. Larry Mattlage, a distant cousin of Mattlage's who owns nearby land, fired a shotgun twice into the air Sunday but no one was injured. But Fred Mattlage does not share his cousin's frustrations with the group. For more than a week, the rural area has been a traffic nightmare as the camp attracted hundreds more protesters as well as Bush supporters holding counter-rallies. A resident was arrested Monday night after authorities say he ran over hundreds of small wooden crosses bearing names of fallen U.S. soldiers. Tuesday morning, several landowners asked county commissioners to extend for at least two miles the public "no parking" zone around Bush's ranch. The ordinance now prohibits cars from stopping on the road within about a quarter of a mile. Bush, who said he sympathizes with Sheehan, has made no indication that he will meet with her. Sheehan and other families met with Bush two months after her son's death before she became a vocal opponent of the war. |

How was I to know, she was with the Russians too. |

Wonder how many watch lists that name is on? Answer: A BUNCH (following is exerpt from declassified watch list)
Unless Hadi Jawad is the Arabic equivalent of "John Smith", this doesn't look good. |

absolutely. god bless him... |

You could clear all those people out in about 10 seconds , synthetic skunk urine
55gallon drum of it and perfectly legal to use |
Nope. I'd wait for them to use the PortaPotties, then go tip them. I AM a BOFH after all.... -Storm |

See now there's an idea. Even hippies would clear the fuck out of dodge in the midst of that amount of stink. ETA: I'm down for a firemission, San Antone's not too far from Crawford. |

GROUP BUY |
I got nothin better to do. Crawford is a 3-4 hour drive for me. Where does one buy this stuff? |

I don't know about Texas, but in Missouri even if there is an easement on your property that runs along a road, you still own the property, not the county. I own some property in Missouri that has the property line running down the center of a county road, it's my legal property, but I can't do what I want with it.
55 gallons! wow, that's alot stink, EPOCH |

+1 I have to laugh at the people not supporting this guy- a patriot takes action and the armchair flag wavers turn their backs. |

If burning an American flag is protected free speech, mowing down fake crosses should be the same. |
My parents live not too far from there. From what I understand the locals are calling her "The Bitch in a Ditch." As for the asshat local letting them stay on his 1 acre, that's got to be crowded. Porta patties, tents, ganja stash, smelly hippies, and Dr Haji Wad on one acre?
