My land line runs $26/month. that is why I switched to $12/month VoIP. SBC is a total rip off. When I had Verizon landline service in NJ, it was $16/month - FREE LOCAL calls. Anything else was a toll call. I found a LD carrier that charged 4 cents a minute.
My VoIP is FREE unlimited in-state calling. that means I can phone up someone in Da UP from Deeeetroit w/o incuring any fees. Best part? I can bring the VoIP router with me and have "local" service anywhere that has Internet access. They now have a WiFi VoIP phone that lets you use it anywhere that has WiFi... so you can call home for free if you're at an airport that has WiFi.
VoIP is the future of landline replacement. It may not dent cell service, but I sure as heck won't go back to a true landline unless SBC cuts it down to $10/month for local service. SBC's $26/month gets you free local calling, but in-state long distance and out of state long distance still cost extra. SBC's $26/month also does not have call waiting, caller ID, or anything.
my $12/month VoIP gives you caller ID, voice mail, call waiting, unlimited in state long distance, etc...
For $22/month VoIP gives you unlimited long distance in the US and 21 countries. Bring the router with you on trips that have Ethernet jacks and you essentially have free phone service anywhere in the US.
