What's wrong with air time? Gotta be able to get out a "yee-haw" at some point.
Airborne? Hell, pin a set of "jump wings" on it and be proud. Bo and Luke Duke would approve.
The 'Ring is crazy! They have days where you can drive on it,simply sign a form, and you're off.
When you catch some air on a turn, youll be saying "OH SHIT!!!" not yee haw Than youll find yourself rolling in a ditch. |
That track is nasty. There are a couple of declines right after a long straight away.
GM had it rented out for this one....couldn't have any tourists getting in the way. |
The Porsche GT ...The $500,000 + mid engined one is 10 secs faster around the ring..The Z06 is actually tied for second with the Porsche 996 GT2..The regular C6 gets it done in 17secs slower than the Z06 |
Thanks. For the money the Z06 is tough to beat. |
There was an article about the 'Ring in one of those European car mags,in the pics, you could tell they were running balls out. Motorcycles too,one was killed there at that time.
Heh I'm sure that all 15 Porsche Carreras that have been made since 2003 will be happy to know that they are "production cars." Hell, the 996 costs 200k... The Z06 is around 58-63 depending on how hard the dealer humps your leg. ACK! Must have one. |
But there is nothing sweeter then hearing that 5.7L V10 hit 9k rpm. The thing sounds like a mechanical monster.
Also, in racing, cost rises exponentialy to for every 5 secs you try to shave off. The Carrera GT has had infinitly more wind tunnel testing then the Vette, hence the price, along with much lower production numbers and V10 DOHC engin that goes to almost 10k rpms is not cheap, especialy compared to a cheap big cube enigine like the LS7. Your paying more for status than speed with thse cars. You want to fly around on a track and still be street legal then look at the GTM by Factory Five racing. For $35k max you have a race car that weights 2200lbs and a 400+hp LS2. |
Are you sure about that? I've seen regular C6's being sold for almost that much. Of course I assumed that the dealer was just ripping people off, but still. The rumors I heard was that the new Z06 would be almost 70 or even over 70. Still a bargain relatively speaking though. |

Yes! It's those damn headlights! |
There is a crazy kook who is putting a Z06 engine into a Miata, thats gonna be interesting!!!!
The 2006 Z06s are still selling @ or above sticker in most places... Give it until November. ETA: Pre order? |
If your going to bash the Porsche's...get your numbers right. There have been THOUSANDS of porsche carreras made sense 2003. The 996 is a used car at this point and can be bought for $55,000 to $150,000 depending on model. The Z06 is said to be WAY more then 58K.....the new C7 Covette is stickered about 60K. Exspect 75-80K for the Z06. |

the only way to help the downforce,
RICEY FUCKING WING!!!! I know its a travesty, but sometimes form must follow function. I remember 5th gear with the latest 911 turbo. "And with the downforce provided, it keeps the car firmly stuck to the ground *JUMP, scrape* most of the time anyway" |
He meant the Porsche Carerra GT, not the Porsche Carerra. It's like comparing the Ford Mustang GT with the Ford GT. Similar names, slightly different cars.
I wonder if there's a listed track time for the Ferrari Enzo or the Maserati MC12? As a challenge, the BBC show Top Gear had one of their presenters try to do the nurburgring in under ten minutes in a Jaguar diesel. Upon proudly displaying his time to Sabine Schmidt (THE nurburgring expert), she retorted that she could do that time in a van. Of course, they couldn't let that go, so they gave her a Ford Transit diesel, and set her on her way. She was overtaking Porsches, BMWs, bikes and even Ferarris in her van. Just goes to show what you can do if you've a good driver. (And can you imagine what happened to the egos of those drivers as they overtaken by a Ford Transit?) NTM |
I just knew we would hear from from the penis galery... er peanut galery. autos.msn.com/advice/article.aspx?contentid=4022595 (I'm pretty sure that they never built anything close to the planned 5K a year. I really doubt that they built more than a hundred) and I'm pretty sure we were talking about the 996 GT3. Find me one for $55k :) |
Badass car, but still can't go mudding or have room for a gun rack.
I'd rather have a RUF Porsche. Built by guys that run the Autobahn daily
Not even in the same price class, that like saying I would rather have a ferrari |
but I hate Ferraris I really want a McLaren F-1 |
According to all the videogames I play that model tha track, there's some dips along some of the straights that would force any car going fast enough to jump.
No amount of downforce will save it. |
I wondered about the Enzo and the McLaren F-1 myself..my figures come from this month's Motor Trend...BTW.. they do mention there are 2 separate tracks to the 'Ring so there may be 2 separate sets of stats. |
True, but I'd have to agree that the RUF Porsche's are the all around top performing sports cars. |
The shape is very nice - but those headlights make it look like a crappy riced-out Mitsubishi 3000GT |
It's not ricey if it serves a legitimate purpose and isn't just there to look like a biplane crashed into the back of a car. |
pwn3d I was reading a site dedicated to motorcycles. One guy was talking about the importance of riding skills versus jumping on the bike with the most HP. To prove this, he related a story that personally happened to him. He was doing track time at a place in SoCal, and was hammering this kid on a sport bike. The kid was getting all pissed off and frustrated, because he's riding a 600cc sportbike, and he's getting beaten by a guy on a KLR 250!! |
C7? I doubt that is barely on the drawing board, since they just released the C6 Corvette |
I've run the Autobahn daily. I'll build you a ride. Luck Alac |
On a side note, Corvette buyers don't have to pay gas-guzzler tax. |
yes I have read this in Road and Track as well. There are certain areas where a little flying are part of the course at speed. There's nothing wrong with the ZO6's downforce, if there was, there'd be some additonal pics of what was left of the thing. |
7mins 42secs is mental, I love the ring 13 miles of driving joy
According to Road & Track, the C6 testing at Nurburgring was accompanied by the unmistakable sound of a supercharger. The cost of that bad boy is estimated to be 100k I'll post the blurb if I get a chance this afternoon.
p.s., this would fit in just swimmingly in the cars and bikes forum |
That was the highly hopeful and anticipated Super Vette ( not the Z06 ), dubbed the Blue Devil. Estimates are if they build it, probably be around $100k. The ZO6 would be plenty for me, and what a bargain for $30k less |
I'm having a hard time believing the stock valvetrain will handle 10k...... |
Yep! Keith Code's California Superbike School routinely had guys leaving the class going faster on 250s than they started on 600s. Watching friend Barbara beat most of the area Corvette club at an Autocross in her 100% stock turbo diesel Beetle was priceless, esp with a straight that required 3rd in my Z28 and her rear window "diesel power" in shoe polish letters Kinda like cool guy hardware does not make you a shooter |

Someone posted a video of a BMW M3 GTR doing the 'Ring a while back. It was awesome!
