I just got throught watching Law and Order(?) and they managed to get warrants on conversation logs of a website. My question is why would a website/forum even keep such logs in the first place? They just take up valuable disk space and it seems it would be a hassel archiving them, unless there's a law forcing websites/chatrooms/forums to keep such logs?

It's a TV show.   The warrant is only good IF the web logs are archived someplace.
