One of his fellow drivers got jacked up by a car with five guys wearing "turbans" two days ago. The tanker driver was trying to evade them and apparently it got pretty crazy. He was screaming for help on the radio. No word on the outcome or exactly where this happened. I can't follow up either, seems this kind of thing gets buried.

I'm out of here till later tonight and I don't know more than this. But put it together with recent news.

This is in line with recent alerts, both in the US and the UK, that AQ is planning to use tanker trucks to cause mass destruction.

I couldnt agree more.   This would be one of those "f^% the law, I'm packing" situations.

...  This morning, I hopped on my motorcycle and blew up to a little town (Superior) east of here for breakfast. I was eating my chow, when this gasoline truck hauler came in ordered up and waited outside. I thought is was kinda odd because there were no real tables outside to eat at. He sat on the porch deck, eating his breakfast.

... As I egressed the restaurant, he commented on my bike so I stuck up a short conversation with him. In doing so, I asked why he sat on the ground (porch) to eat instead of a table inside.

... He told me the Homeland Security had just issued an edict to all truckers hauling gas to not leave their truck out of sight - at all. He said any violation of the penalty would result in a revoked CDL.

I think law says no firearms in a commercial vehicle.

Well you'd be chasing the tanker too if they forgot their delivery to your cousin Achmed's "Stop and Rob"!

Absolutely...ESPECIALLY after the latest threat release where tankers will be used for terrorists acts.

No such law, but I'm sure it violates almost every company's policies.

Although I once saw a gas tanker driver openly carrying (in Denver, about 6 months ago)

I would need to look it up, but I think the law states no weapons, which I belives covers firearms.  And I dont know of any companys that will allow you to carry.

Things like that tend to make the news.  I wonder if that guy was the trucker equivalent of a gunshow SEAL.

I was looking over renewing my CDL and getting a hazmat rating.  After 9/11, you need the feds to do a background test  on your to clear you for a hazmat truck rating (which you pay for, about $100).  Cannot be a non-citizen and drive tanker trucks.

Everybody believes that it is illegal to have a gun in the truck.  Your company might even tell you that this is the case. But nobody can cite a law that makes it illegal.

You must comply with laws regarding firearms in vehicles, the same as in a personal vehicle.

Hence why this is a rare situtation

And honestly, outside of NYC, how many cops would bust a good ol' boy for packing with this kind of alert out there?

Honest answer?  99.9% of LEO's that found a weapon in violation of the law would cite or make an arest as the situation warranted (pun intended).

The majority of cops are anti-gun, and socialist.  They believe, since they are told so, it is THEIR duty to serve and protect.  It is our duty to dial 911.

NYPD cops would bust him BECAUSE of this alert!!!  "Why would a tanker driver need a gun?"  "He must have been up to no good with a gun on him."  Thats assuming he's caught while simply carrying.  If he saves the day and kills perps, then he'll just be sued into non existance or he'll be a walking mangina in prison.  This is NY, land of Schumer and Hitlary, throw reason aside when you enter.

It ain't just gas either............ It's pretty much any 'Bulk Packaged' material................ I can give you a list of haz-mat that I deal with on a daily basis, that would put gas to shame......................

I wish I had asked or paid more attention to where this occurred. I brought up the packing angle; according to him it is a Federal law. He's been in the business for a long time and knew the guy who went up with his tanker when he tipped it over in Petaluma some years back. I was less than a mile away from that one, July  4, 199_ I don't remember the year.

Also its business as usual, these alerts have been coming down all along.

He used the word turbans, also said they were purple, although ask most people the difference between muslim and sikh headgear and you wll get a blank stare.
