I have often wondered, with all of the talented machinists and craftsmen on ARFCOM,
why do we ever have a shortage of specific US made parts.  There has been a huge demand for
a US made AK74 brake to fit  Romanian SAR-2 rifles.  That has finally been addressed and we should be seeing the finished product soon. You can read about it here: http://www.ar15.com/forums/topic.html?b=4&f=64&t=72705&page=1

With that out of the way, what parts do you need to stay legal that you can not find commercially?
I needed US made  7.62 AK floor plates and followers, and found them at RPB.

Does anyone have a project that they need specific US made parts for in order to stay 922r compliant?
Any certain magazine that you need US made floor plates for? A certain muzzle brake? Furniture?
Internal parts?

I have a friend that is a machinist, and was trying to find out what there is a demand for.
So, if you need specific parts, or have ideas about a US made part that could help you get past the parts count problem and allow you to change out a stock or other part, please post them here.

Just trying to get a feel for what is needed, and what might be a worthwhile product to provide.

Thanks,
Herman

Bumped for the evening crowd.

My buddy's fledgling company needs some more ideas in addition to what is already in the works.

How bout an extended slide release for the FN-Tactical Police Shotgun, that brings the release about  an inch further back, so it can easily be manipulated by the thumb of the pistol grip hand?

I see a demand for barrels in the future for all those cool foreign weapons that we can not
import any longer.   HK, AK, FAL etc.

Some of the parts listed wouldnt be considered a US part like a mag catch. A rear trunnion for AK's would be easy as hell to make, it a solid piece of steal, counts as a US part and shouldnt be too hard to make. Maybe even front trunnions with no barrel pin hole drilled. A us made underfolder stock for an AK would count, and people would buy them like crazy., simple sheet metal could be formed into it, again shouldnt be to expensive.

Somebody needs to get "in" with some overseas AK factories and buy barrels that arent finished. No sight or gas block holes drilled, not threaded ect. Simply finish them up here and US barrel.

Sorry, i dont know much about other imported rifles.

* Gas piston for the Saiga-12
* Railed handguard system for the Saiga-12
* Extended muzzle device to make 16" when perm. attached to an AK-105 gas block (AK-USA is making some, but not in large numbers and they're expensive)

+1
A "match" SKS trigger like the RedStar AK trigger would be especially great.  If my figures are correct a USA made SKS trigger group would be 4 parts:  Trigger housing, hammer, trigger, & sear.

+1 for AK74 floorplates & followers also.

+1 on the ChiCom underfolder bayonet AK front sight base.  Maybe even

USA made hardwood or laminate SKS stock to replace the crappy Chu wood.

22mm threaded AK74 brakes for Romanian 5.45 rifles, or 24mm threaded front sight base that'll fit the Romanian 5.45.

USA made red-brown "bakelite" Russian or Romanian, brown East German, Yugo, funky gray-green Hungarian or red ChiCom "1919 Browning" style grips.

And the ability to CHROME LINE barrels. If I hear one more sheister refer to his POS non-chrome lined barrels he's selling as "match grade" I'm gonna puke! It kills me how these cheap asses call anything not chrome lined "match grade". BULLSHIT!!! If it ain't Shilen or Hart or etc. it AIN'T "match grade". It's just a non-chrome lined POS.

Yeah, if the prices would stay the same as what they are now. But that wont happen. When AK prices for a low end AK are the same cost as an AR, what will you buy?

I'd say somebody is really sticking it to me. An AK just doesn't need to be as expensive to make as an AR. Or, it could be make to higher quality standards. A straight, rock solid AK with advanced sights and a longer sight radius would be worth more than what's out there now.
