Rescue divers recovered an assault rifle, a .22 caliber rifle and four handguns from Silver Lake Park in Bristol Friday afternoon.

Bristol Police said Jared Aichele, 23, lead them to the spot where he dumped the stolen guns after burglarizing another resident on the 600 block of Fourth Avenue Wednesday.

Police said shortly before 7 a.m. Wednesday a resident reported four sheds of his were broken into and several guns, musical instruments and power tools were taken.

After a traffic stop early Friday morning, police found several of the stolen items inside a car belonging to another resident of the 600 block of Fourth Avenue. Corporal Joseph Moors and Officer Samuel Anderson later interviewed Aichele he admitted taking the items, according to police.

Aichele lead them to the banks of the lake behind Route 13 Friday afternoon and police requested divers from the American Hook and Ladder and Lower Southampton fire companies.

Firefighter Vince Reardon said he walked up to the water and spotted a bag about a foot past reeds. Diver Matt Haines pulled the bag of four handguns out of the water. Then Lower Southampton diver Randy Gallagher used a new underwater metal detector to locate the fifth gun, a SKS .762 mm assault rifle. Reardon said it was the first time the detector was used in the field. The Bucks County Technical Rescue Task Force recently bought the device with Homeland Security money, he said. It was tested moments before it was brought down for Friday's recovery. Within minutes, a third diver, Chris Hawraney found the .22 rifle.

Haines said the divers didn't have any problems finding the guns and the water was good.

Aichele was arraigned Friday night on charges of felony charges of burglary, theft and related offenses. He was sent to Bucks County prison on 10 percent of $75,000

I guess now that it's wet, the sand sticks into the microscopic bore. How would you clean such a small bore?

Dude, you could fit at least two grains of sand into a .762mm bore.

ETA: Why the hell would you steal several guns and dump them? Even if he intended to go back for them can't he think of a better place to store them??

A lot of fire dept dive teams do evidence recovery for the PD. Not a lot of good reasons to finance TWO separate dive teams in the same municipality.

As for the shed comment, folks leave guns everywhere. Pickup beds, back porches, garage cabinets, I can point to one lady that leaves a pistol under the chair cushions on her front porch.
