I think the first thing that got me interested in firearms was seeing soldiers from the 82nd marching with thier M16A1s. After that I always had a hardon to own as many AR15s as possible. i was 5 y/o at the time. by the time i was seven I knew who invented the AR15 and who invented the AK47. By the time I joined the ARMY I had memorized a shit load of weapon systems make model and ammo.

When I was 8 or so I got to shoot for the first time, which got me into guns.

It was a Walther P-38, but then the IMI UZI rifle and UZI pistol hooked me to the evil looking ones.

My parents would always buy me toy guns, you know, the M16 rifle that went "clack-clack-clack-clack" every time you pulled the trigger, the Uzi rubber dart gun, Nerf guns, etc. My father taught me how to look through the sights, then simply graduated me to steel dart airguns, pellet guns, and finally firearms. I got to practice my skills in Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts, though I'm not sure how many BSA chapters still have riflery.

Going shooting with dad and my brothers when I was younge. Got the AR bug after shooting my oldest bro's rifle. Thats all it took......

Followed by a family friend who owned over 100 guns - including a Title II fullauto M1 Thompson subgun, a semiauto Norinco AK, and a preban FAL..........his attic was littered with Machine Gun News.........I became a convert - thereafter, I started buying "assault rifles" and reading American Survival Guide as if it were gospel. Don't laugh - because I did. Today, I am a federale and I still read the Survival Forum on ARFCOM and I know the SHTF eventually - it has in many places. Don't be a victim. Even Feds call 9-1-1...........

Ballistics.

As a 5-8 yr old it simply amazed me that the little lead pellets in dad's shotgun shells could kill a bird as big as a pheasant. I knew it did, had proof every weekend in the fall, but it amazed me that it was so.

My father introduced me into shooting around age 6. The first gun I ever shot was a Marlin 22 lr. I was hooked after that.

I always had a few rifles and shotguns for hunting; a couple pistols that I didn't shoot much.

Then I happened to see some asshole holding an AR and yelling about banning assault weapons and decided that if the commie liberals didn't like black rifles I should have a truck load of them.

Dad was in Small Arms in the USAF. Wasn't too much stuff left that I hadn't fired by the time I was 10yr's old.

I always thought they were kinda cool growing up, having a air rifle through my early years.

Then, on a whim, I obtained a Thompson Center Hawken rifle kit. Didnt know anything about blackpowder shooting.

I put her together very carefully,...she turned out beautifully. Then, I read a few books about shooting them

So, I shot it for awhile.

Then I discovered the rec.guns list as well as AR15-L, and everything went straight to hell from there.

Though, over the past couple of years, my interest has waned a bit as I got into other hobbies. It's been a couple of years since I have bought a gun...though the last was a Les Baer...not a bad way to go out.

Its been awhile since I've been shooting. I dragged out a few favorites the other night, just to admire them.

Damn, I gotta get back out there in shoot. I took such amazement and pride that I owned them.

I do have a minor itch for a Thompson. Is anyone making operational modern drum magazines? I hope not, as that may convince me to buy one.

As a young lad I had some terrific advisors to my scout troop that also showed us the worlds of 4-wheeling and shooting.

Southern California was a great place to be in the early 70's. I really miss those days...

a step dad who was a collector and fanatic of Sharps,Colt and Winchester's etc. he taught me to shoot and appreciate 'Old Iron', when a gun show was within driving distance we would pack up and head out for it my Mom would just sigh and look the other way but never said a word about our gun loving ventures(as in Geezus another one?) today I still love firearms and J.A Lee wherever you are thanks for passing on a worthwhile interest.

My dad was a "kitchen table" FFL when I was a kid. I thought everyone having 50 guns was normal.

Shot my first 1911 when I was 5 as well as my first 4.10, and .22lr. Shot my first M16A1 when I was 7.

Edited to add: My dad had to stand behind me and help hold the 1911.

Born into it. My father was USMC/USAF/Sheriff/Police. Was around firearms from day one. I was personally in the BSA and Young Marines in my pre and early teens, Army ROTC and USMC/USMCR. Hunted and did some sport shooting with my brothers growing up. At age 13 (1983) , I went shooting with a friend and his uncle. He took us out to shoot this beautiful H&K 91 w/ clear/smoke mags. Although I had been around firearms all my life, that day remains a 'turning point' for me and I never looked at firearms the same since.

Uncle took me to the range at age 5, year 1970.

Ruger 22 pistol & claybird targets on a piece of cardboard.

No earplugs of course back then.

Had one of those 50 cent fleamarket USGI canvas hand grenade carriers on my belt.

Picked up the nice shiny empties & put them in there. Felt like a rich man when I got back to the neighborhood.
