I bet that caseless ammunition is going to be the next big thing after it is made less expensive.
hell I bet the next generation of firearm will be a caseless bullpup with a magazine counter a scope that is both a hologram sight and a variable scope with nightvision and a thermal viewer. All of this will be encased in a crush proof easily disassembled casing. With a fourshot shotgun type grenade launcher using that experimental new grenade. Basically everything you saw in aliens that the colonial marines have plus the standard redot variable thermal nightvision scope.

Caseless Bullpup was to be the next big thing, but it never got off the ground.

Look up the HK G11.

HK was ahead of its time, and when the Cold War was over there was no need for the G11 or the ammo. But still it was a very advance design for the time.

Phasers can't ever exist. Its techno babble weaponry. Keep you lasers and plasma weapons. You'll want a particle beam weapon. Energy and mass hitting a target. Fun for the whole family.

Caseless HE ammo. Think about it you see a technical (A flatbed truck with a MG on the back) and you fire several shots at it and it explodes or is on fire, no mess eather, very awsome.

Not entirely true. Remember, Mr. Sulu had collection of firearms. Remember the episode where he found what looked like a S&W Military and Police .38. He said something like"Iwas just thinking of this. It is just what I need for my collection". Then there was the TNG episode where the old couple were the only ones left on a planet and the old man had some antique type laser.
