I live in Seward, Alaska.  Buddy of mine has these jetskis.....

Anyhow, the ice pics are taken in the lake in front of Bear glacier, I think about 15 miles south of seward.  Had to go about  a mile upstream to get to it.  Sorry for the crap pics, lame camera, it was late in the day and the fod was pea soupish for most of the run..................But I can honestly say I have had more fun than alot of people.

Taking off:

Old army dock north of Caines Head

The keyhole by Caines Head.

Ice.....

More Ice....

And more  Ice.....

I have a few more to upload, a few where we are brazenly tempting fate in numerous ways.

I am trying out a new image host, I hope they don't flake out on me, but it is not looking too promising.

That is about as cool a thing as I have seen.
Its like 90 degrees out at 9:30PM here
Was over 100 with the heat index today.....I would trade in a heartbeat!

You need a rifle slung over the back, so you can shoot those pesky fish that try to bother you.

If you get the right kind of suit(wet suit, dry suit) you can fall into that water and not freeze. What do you think divers use for cold deep water? I wonder if you can just swim with the right equipment regularly in such temperatures?

Funny you should mention that, see there were these harbor seals, and well, I am native (enough)  to harvest these sorts of things and well.....I kinda wanna wait till there is a tour boat with in visual range....

Not really, but it is tempting sometimes......

The owner of the jetskis does use them for fishing though.  And I have seen another jetski set up with racks for extra fuel, pole holders, cooler, and bait before.

We are wearing dry suits.  I have a pic coming where my friend is in the water.  It is pretty damn cold once you get into the lake area, the water is just above freezing, and you can see your breath.

That looks like a lot of fun.

The only boat I was in in Alaska was some kind of wooden landing craft the Army used in WWII.

Outstanding pics yekimak so pardon a little hijack, but is the town in pic #1 Steward?  That place looks really interesting.  I'm sure some might say "right, for about 20 minutes" but I've always liked poking around looking for smaller towns located in really neat places.  Some pics of town someday?

How many miles are you talking about to go from the green arrow to the red X?

So what do most people do to make a living there?  Doesn't look too industrial.  I'm guessing seafood and forestry?

Around 15 or so miles I guess.

There has not been a whole lot of industry in Seward since the 1964 quake.  It used to be the main entry port to the interior of the state, but the earthquake and subsequent tsunami left the place in ruins.  The major industries here are tourism and commercial fishing, with the biggest employers being the State and City (our maximum security prison is across the bay.)

More pics to come tomorrow...just got back from another trip and hopefully some of the movies will come out.  The guy who owns the Jetskis just spent a wad of dough on a new sony 7 MP camera, dive case, and gig memory stick so we will see how things turned out.

What's a good photo server to stick them on?

Absolutely Awesome!!!

Next time you get a camera as well, so you can take pics of your buddy.  Seems like he's cutting things a bit close as well.

Either way, damned!  I'm one jealous dude.

I'll stick to climbing my little mountains and riding my dirt bike until I  get to the big land up North.

Again..... Awesome!   And Thanks for sharing the pics!
