Deer hunting opened to high-powered rifles DES MOINES, Iowa Hunters can use center-fire or high-powered rifles _ even some assault weapons _ to shoot deer in Iowa under new rules approved today (Tuesday) by a legislative committee. It's the latest effort by state officials to reduce the number of deer in the state. The Administrative Rules Review Committee, a joint House-Senate panel, had the power to block the new rules _ but it didn't. The new rules require that the rifles be larger than .24 caliber and have a capacity of no more than six rounds in the chamber and magazine together. Department of Natural Resources spokesman Terry Little says the restrictions would ban M-16s, but would allow an AK-47 if the size of the magazine was limited. The rifles can be used to shoot deer only during one week in January and only in the southern two tiers of counties, where officials have struggled to control the deer population. ----------------- somewhere, a liberal is pissed |

Is a 7.62x39 a decent deer round? I've always wondered that but never knew. Of course, the hard part would be hitting the broadside of a deer with an AK. MJD

The local radio morning show dolts were talking about this. "You don't need a machine gun to shoot a deer." "How many times do you want to shoot one deer." "Machine guns are illegal anyways right?"
Yes! It is roughly equivalent to a 30-30. |
Learn how to stalk a deer like the indians and hunters of old did, and it won't be a problem. When you park your fat ass in a tree chair waiting for some deer to come within 150 yards of your 1000 yard capable rifle...well, I think it would take all the "fun" out of it. ETA: Bowhunters rule, even though some park their fat asses in tree chairs |

First time I went hunting I had an SKS and after about ten minutes a 10 point buck stepped into my clearing coming straight at me.
One shot from the SKS and he dropped where he stood. Hell ya its a good deer round, I wouldnt shoot out to 200 yards with it though. edit. How did this change from the old hunting rules, it doesnt say. The rules are basically the same as MN's. Where does it say machine guns are ok to hunt with, I just see high powered rifle. |
Bummer, in Colorado, you are limited to five rounds for semi-auto rifles and no full auto is permitted.
Strangely their is no limit om magazine size for bolt & lever actions. And I use an M1A for elk hunting and do great. |
None of those bowhunters hold a candle to the real hunters that used slings and spears |

Wolf makes some nice looking 154grn Soft Points... I haven't had a chance to get to the range since buying a dozen boxes of it (8 mags worth).... if the recoil isn't much more than the 122 FMJ I don't see why it couldn't become my standart load. It has to work well on
Sure. Put the right bullet on top and you have an inaccurate 30-30. You should be able to get the job done though from 50 - 125yds with a decent shooting rifle. |
How about game cameras that trigger claymores? Now that's hunting! |
What kind of ammo/bullets? |
Heavy bitch, but that's what is going with me this year. I plan to lay down a suppressing fire as I advance on deer's position. Dumb-assed media. Can't find the truth or their own asses with two hands or flashlight. |
Yep, we have lost a lot of good men out there...... |
As long as you post the video! Truth is I don't care one whit about the method. I'm interested in bringing home some meat and learning a little outdoorsing, along with just enjoying the break from the rat race. I like rifles so I'll use my rifle. I have no intrest in learning to use bows or archery. Therefore I'll not use that meathod. I really could care less what other people want to use. |

we'll see what he says |

Just make a neck strap for your 1919 and link up 6 rounds and you will be ready for some hunting.
What would be better would be to mount the 1919 to the handlebars of a 4 wheeler. |
How could you hunt with a machine gun in Iowa, a state where it is illegal ot own or possess one?
absolutely NOT hunting but VERY VERY COOL! |
an ak47 is full auto he should have said an "ak47-style weapon" |
My point exactly. when dealing witn non-gun types ak-47 does not equal full auto |
Don't forget to call for fire and bracket them. |
yes, but a representative of the state should be more precise with his words when speaking with the media. The spokesman did point out that an M-16 was a no-no...persumably because of the small caliber. I think we can infer than an M60 would be ok but a M249 would be illegal. |

Aw shit. This whole time I thought my centerfire rifles WERE High powered. Now I find out there is a difference????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????
I've never had a deer complain yet! |
To the press, all rifles are "high powered", but notice they're forced to imply that the M16 is low powered. |
It's about fucking time Iowa allowed CF rifles.
How could any moron in their legislature of Fish & Game Dept defend the shotgun-only rule in a state that's fucking wide open is beyond me. Now we have to fix Ohio. |
Ya know I bet you could legaly use an MG here in wisconsin too, the game regs say it's illegal, but they also say that SBR's and SBS's are illegal to hunt with as well. However the actuall law that those regs are based on also allows for you to own said weapons, and I have sicne found out that if you are in legal possession of the SBR or SBS you can infact hunt with it. Damn I should have askd the DNR guy about the MG thing too, my geuss is that it is the same way with the MGs though. The law that gives backing to the reg allows for private ownership sooooooo........

SHOOT! SHOOT |

Too bad Iowa still has the mag restrictions. In WI we can use 10, 20, 30, and 100 round mags. Even a semi auto1919, M60 or HK21 would work
My whole family uses military style rifles for deer hunting. I use a HK91 and bring a AR15 or Steyr AUG along. My Dad uses a DSA FAL, and a AR15. My uncle uses a HK SL7 and a AR. And when my grandpa was alive he shot deer with a 1903 30 06 |
No wonder some of those FREE "HUNTING RANGES" limit mag capacity to 3 rounds in rifles and 5 rounds in pistols. |
Here in Ohio I can use a machine gun (if I legally owned one) on rabbits but only shotguns on deer. (I guess there's a muzzleloader season, too).
I once was night hunting fox with my AR, with a 20-round mag in and a flashlight taped to it, when a sherrif pulled over and wondered what my truck was doing parked out by the woods so late. He just wanted to see my hunting license and the deputy advised me that there are better ways to attach a light. |
The turdy point buck!
i couldn't get to my grenades the howitzer was in the shop my stomache was tied into a monkey knot ya my only hope was betty lou she was da one a combination AK-57 uzzie radar lasar triple barrel double scoped heat-seakin shotgun |
My A3 M4 clone and m855 kilt several deer last season. KY has a 10 round mag limit though.
Lumpy, you are too cool! Great hunting! That's just the kind of things sheeple need to be confronted with to end their BR bigotry. |
