A long time ago I remember a thread that a guy posted about the emergency gas shut off sensor in his car activating from shooting his .357 near the open door. I can't for the life of me remember what all was said about this happening. Does anyone know if this is at all a common thing or even possible? I can only assume that some of the parameters of this would have to do with the type of vehicle and whether it is equipped with a shut off sensor. With all the drive by shooting in the 80's and 90's you would think that if this can't happen that much.

The reason I ask is that in a car jacking type situation, there maybe a call to shoot from the seat of your car and then move away from the threat, hard to do if it stalls out. So what say it hive mind, is this a valid concern in any way?

ive shot the AR out of the truck many times, besides from a few ticketts nothing happend.

From my experience, all of the vehicles I've used had the emergency gas shut off in the rear of the vehicle. I don't know about the newer (less durable)models, but the emergency gas-shutoff has always been in the trunks of my vehicles.

Ive only seen them under the hood, I've never seen one in the trunk

I think that may be a story.

In northern Maine they actually test your shooting ability with a 30-6 while sitting bitch in a pickup in order to get your license

This is NONSENSE!

We fired from vehicles in Vehicle defense class and in Patrol rifle class. Never a problem, Jethro!

Some cars have a device that shuts off the fuel flow in case of an accident. It is activated by impact...a certain amount of sudden G forces is required to activate it, not sound or concussion.

I had NO idea that cars had such a thing......but hey, all I have ever driven is Muscle Cars ( 73 Custom Hatchback Nova and a 69 Chevelle ) and Jeeps. Well, I did have a '75 Toyota Corolla Wagon once.....that thing was the BEST shooting mobile!!!
