Christianity is not a protected subculture in this country, as opposed to Islam.

Aw heck, that's nothing...

I was in B&N in Tulsa a couple of years ago and asked if they could order a copy of "Unintended Consequences" and they said that they could. They also said that they would need a credit card number to order it. I told them that I wanted to use cash, but didn't mind paying for it right then and waiting a week or two for it to get there. Then they said that they could take cash, but they needed to see my driver's license first (MEGA WTF'S???) and I asked why. They wouldn't give me an answer other than to say that it was policy for ordering "these kind of books".

I took my money and walked out, haven't been back there since...

At least they still carry Shotgun News and other gun mags.  Some other stores in my area have a no gun magazines policy.

Why should you be suprised?

B&N stocks the books that sell well.  Recently we've become uncomfortably aware of the RoP wanting to kill us.  As such people are intrested in learning about the RoP.  Thusly, RoP books sell well.  Ten years ago every book in the relegion section was about  crystals and wicka.

Christians shop for Bibles and Christian themed books at Christian Book Stores.

Sure, sure, nothing to see here, move along.

Nevermind all the LLLib shenanigans during the election cycle, with B&N / Borders staffers hiding / concealing Kerry-bashing books in stockrooms, while setting displays of Bush-bashing books right inside the front door.

nothing going on at all.

The religion section of the B&N near me has far more Christian-themed books than any other type by far.

My Borders has a single book (not a single copy of a book, just one book) on Islam tucked away in its religion section. The first three copies have obscenities scrawled on the cover and the first one looks suspiciously like somebody wiped his ass with the title page.

Ironically, the book isn't supporting or denouncing Islam at all. It's a history of Islam, its origins, key figures in its history, and philisophical aspects.

My local B&N doesn't stock Conservative authors with anywhere near enough copies.  I looked for Thomas Sowell's new book for a couple of weeks before I just got it from Borders.  I've had the same problem with Ann Coulter and Larry Elder books and these books were on the Best Sellers lists.  This is a store in a very Conservative city and county in CA.

Still I wouldn't disagree that B&N is marketing the Islam volumes.  Everyone's seen the Christian ones.

The reason tha the korans (book of lies in english) is on the top shelf is baecaus of muslim groups complaining that the korans always ended up on the bottom shelfs.

It is now a B&N policy to keep them on the top shelf.

The guy to contact is Mark Bottini mbottini @ bn.com (remove the spaces).
He is the VP Director of Stores.

Don't ask how I got the info, just bombard him with e-mail.....

"Q. How old do I have to be to buy a top shelf magazine?
  A. Strictly speaking legally acceptable pornographic magazines displayed on the top shelf of a newsagent can be sold legally to anyone of any age. They are sold on the top shelf and to over 18s only by convention.

Guess I'm OK with them being on the top shelf

You know better than that. Reason is not allowed when slights are perceived.

He's right guys, it's marketing 101. Put the best selling stuff where the public can get it easily.

Yes it happened, at the 71st Street store, just across the street south from Woodland Hills Mall.
